I’ve not driven for over a year now for medical reasons. Reapplied for my medical licence which DVLA have had since September. They wrote to my neurologists in December who sent back completed positive forms in the post. DVLA said they didn’t receive it. Hospital sent again. Again, DVLA said they didn’t revive it. Sent a third time, same outcome. Hospital told me they will not send out a letter recorded delivery. My neurologists then sent by email, DVLA said they didn’t revive it. A 2nd and 3rd email sent, same outcome. Tried the fax but DVLA said they didn’t revive it, same outcome for the 2nd fax.

The DVLA have tight rules as to what email address the medical letters could come from so I couldn’t sent it to them direct. They told me I couldn’t personally had it over to a branch of any kind to get it to them. This all went on for months.

Finally, I got the hospital to send an email logging the time and date which I provided the DVLA to track and sure enough after 10 working days they were then and only then able to then search for it on the system. They’d found it!

After a few weeks I called them and they me they have now written to my GP for more info on my seizures. My neurologist already gave the all clear and my GP does not get involved with any of it.

Where it goes from here I don’t know but my motability EV has been ordered (December 28th) as my neurologist told me it was okay from her point of view. I reckon my car will be delivered around April. Hopefully the DVLA will give me my licence back.

My neurologist is perplexed as to why her specific positive medical letter wasn’t enough because she’s the only one that deals with it.

I can’t speak to the doctor at the DVLA who was dealing with my licence, it’s all a faff. Takes around an hour to get through to the DVLA medical team every single phone call. You can’t get through ringing the actual DVLA medical number as it cuts you off saying the phone lines are too busy, call back later. This message is received no matter what time of day I call. In order to get through to them I have to call a different department, then get transferred to another department and from there I can get transferred to the medical team. Takes no less than 1 hour every time.

    Fed up!
