Small engined, detuned cars imo ain’t as good or as quiet at high speeds, it’s one reason i opted for the 1.5 sport over the 1.ol civic as i do alot of motorway miles and A roads driving at higher speeds. Even with manuals versions they noisie and have less horses to spare at the top end of the range.
As for toyota, i cannot comment first hand on their cvt as for the honda, I currently driving the cvt civic and today was late after an app for school run and used the paddles, when i shifted up i got abit of wheel spin into 2nd and 3rd and i tell you this it’s alot more fun than the golf ever was to drive and the seat is alot more comfortable and if you want smooth it does that also.. just not on scheme right now which a shame. no civics are..
I really wanna do some videos, I heard also the new vw golf comes with rev hang for emmissons, but look i don’t think you can go wrong with the golf overall. Just hard seats in cheaper trim levels, i could not wait to get shot of the one i had. So is one thing to be wary off.. as i’ve mentioned before and the other issues is alot relating to emmisions and software updates of the engine mangement means the dsg box changing up way too early imo, unless you drive it in sport mode all the time. So no auto’s perfect imo.. but my days of driving a manual are gone… Today was closest i’ve been to driving one using the paddles..Really depends what the marraige is imo between an engine and a gearbox.
That takes me back to my truck driving days when you’d be maxed out on the gearbox foot to the floor as that was the way they restricted the top speed. There was one truck that had a different box and exact same engine as all the others and it would do over 70mph rather than 56mph. but when loaded would be so slow to pull away from a start.
There are other differences between honda’s and toyota’s one’s i noticed when looking and comparing specs was top speed even on the fastest 2.ol corrolla the top speed is restricted due to the cvt alot more than on the honda imo. That was another reason i cooled on the corrolla and never bothered test drove it after driving the honda as it was that good a drive.. Great mpg that comes at a huge cost imo.. For example driving at 56mph on motorway to get best mpg is not me..
As some have said a polo or an up will be worse than a golf at higher speeds and so would a honda jazz or yaris. it’s all about what they actually want it to achieve for the usage / mpg etc.
