hi all, my back is collapsing and the way its going i am going to need at the very least to start using a walker or a wheelchair. basically anything more than 30 paces and i am stuffed. theres almost zero chance of an operation or even a specialists appointment this side of hell freezing over.

i looked in the local mobility shop and they have a couple of lightweight chairs that might work, powered and would easily fit in a boot or behind a drivers seat one at 1k the other 2k but i can see similar online for £8-900. next time i am that way i am going to note the actual brands and then check online.

but i thought i would ask here for any reccomendations. it doesnt have to go miles just round a supermarket or shopping centre at most. so a simple chair will suffice i dont need a big scooter.

I have a Lithtech Smart Chair 1 which I have had for a year or so and I am very happy. Looking at their website I can see that they have released some new models but I am very happy. They are on the pricier end £1750- £2500 but have been reliable If you look up the company on Youtube there is an abundance of videos.

I bought a MobilityPlus+ Ultra-Light Instant Folding Electric Wheelchair two years ago from mobilitypluswheelchairs.co.uk.

My wife was able to lift it into the back of our qashqai e-power but I got a couple of ramps anyway, just to make it easier for her.

At 6’1″, I also use an additional seat cushion.

I didn’t pay for a more expensive one as I hoped that I would not need it for more than a few years, but really cannot fault it.

Some great suggestions here already.

I use a manual wheelchair full-time and have recently started using a Triride, other makes are available. But if you find pushing challenging or want to go further and faster, well worth a look at their range. I use the Special Compact HT. Even with my 100kg bulk it takes me 10 miles in the hills. Bit of an overkill for shopping I guess!

@DumfriesDik, that looks wild. and may be an option as i may just start with a manual chair. the prices new are eye watering initially but there are some on the web @ around £1000. and with the rear wheel drive attachment you could go rallying lol. that i have to say appeals rather than go the whole hog to a power chair.

i might look for somewhere that can give a demo. thanks for that. i like wacky something different, who knows may tempt me to get out more, sherwood forest is on the doorstep, might pay robin a visit lol.
