AP went down this quarter, dealership being weird

Asking on behalf of my friend who’s ordered a xc40 last quarter, it’s gone down by 1k

I’m sure they’re able to adjust the price but he’s been trying to get in contact with his dealer, one second it’s he’s on holiday and the other it’s no one’s available. He’s apparently “back” on the 22nd so my friends waiting till then

My friends question is, let’s say they keep messing him around he’s worried that the car might be removed from the scheme and then the price can’t change

also let’s say it says on the scheme this quarter, am I correct in saying they can adjust the price anytime during this quarter?

Yes, they can adjust the AP at any time prior to delivery, as long as the car remains on the scheme.

If the car is removed from the scheme then the order can still be honoured, but at whatever AP is assigned to the order on the Motability system at the time.

Either way, it’s in your friends interest to get the AP adjusted ASAP and if the dealer plays silly buggers and won’t do it consider cancelling and re-ordering at another dealership.

This has been discussed multiple times, OP.

Basically, it’s down to the dealer. Motability dont encourage this, so some dealers can be hesitant to make the change.

When I ordered my Enyaq in December, the dealer refused to change the AP, but when I spoke to a colleague of his later, he changed it without an issue.

Also, when I changed to order an Ioniq 5, the dealer told me on our first meeting that if the AP went down, he would change it for me – and I didn’t even ask.

Just ask firmly but politely that you’d like him to adjust the AP, otherwise you’ll have to re-order. It’s your money.

My dealer was off when the e3008 ap dropped a lot. Another  salesman did it for me and it was done before i knew or asked.

I read a few posts about Volvo dealers, they  seem to be the worst for not wanting to change ap’s.

I’ve been with 4 different dealerships and everyone of them have refused point blank to adjust AP stating it’s against motability policy .

Just remember an not fall for that old chestnut, “the dealer is on holiday”.

Go into the dealership and ask for stuff to get done rather than fobbed off when someone is on holiday.

The dealer will have done a hand-off to another dealer before going on holiday. Any of the other salespersons are trained to do Motability customer stuff at any time.  Some will have been ex-motability sales as well. The sales persons boss can make any adjustments as well.

The place doesnt fall to bits because one person has went on holiday.

Holidays seems common occurence at Volvo dealerships!

As @Ioniq says “The place doesnt fall to bits because one person has went on holiday.”

Thanks guys I’ll pass this information on to him, hopefully it’s sorted soon, I mean worst case if they won’t budge canceling and re ordering still saves him £500 if they keep the other £500 deposit but hopefully it doesn’t come to that

…deposit? I didn’t think that was needed? Seen a few posts saying no deposits are required.

I am thinking actually about ordering an XC40 next month but with an extra of the 360 camera. The test drive at my local Volvo dealer was lovely and we were treated like a normal customer (given previous threads of MB customers being treated like 3rd class citizens).

I have have to ask about no deposits are required and also if the AP does fall (highly unlikely) if they would honour it in q1.

Dealers are entitled to ask for a deposit but it’s not the norm and best avoided. However, if an order is cancelled a dealer must refund any deposit. At no stage do we enter into a legally binding agreement with a dealer. That only happens between us and Motability Operations when we enter the PIN upon acceptance of the car.

                            Volvo no longer have “Dealerships”

Volvo now run a direct sale model, so the locations are effectively only Volvo direct showrooms. (and are known to have a high staff turnover)

Not quite. They still have dealerships as well as a direct model.

Buyers reminded dealerships aren’t closing as Volvo launches direct sales

Play on words for the old signed up dealerships methinks :-

“Partners in its franchised network are shifting to agency model contracts which position them as a service provider for Volvo, which will be the retailer.”

It’s true that Motability don’t like dealers doing this, but the majority will do so happily as it doesn’t make any difference to what they receive for the car. It’s just a 5 minute admin job on the Motability system.

It would pay you to establish if the dealer is happy to do this before placing any order with them, and if they say that they won’t try another dealership. With our previous car (BMW) the AP dropped by £100 and as it was a small amount I didn’t call the dealership, but I didn’t need to. They called me and said that they had adjusted the AP without me even asking, saying “that £100 is better in your pocket than theirs”

Exactly this. It is now an agency model.

All Volvo dealers are now is basically a shop front. You order a car and after that it’s over to Volvo UK with the dealer having very little allowed input or information provided by Volvo on the order until the car (finally) arrives on their premises.

This stuff comes up regularly. Perhaps there’s scope for the powers that be on here to have some sort of before placing your order check/ be aware of list as a yellow sticky? With replies turned off so it doesn’t become a long ramble that might confuse new members more than help them 🙂.

If someone thinks an addition to the list is worthy they can always message the admin with their suggestion.

Quite simply make possible lowering of AP a condition when ordering

If thats an issue walk off

Suspect they will quickly change their minds before you get to the door

Just to add IMO its best to go to the dealer in person rather than try to solve an issue via phone

I completely agree on both points. I always discuss the dealers willingness to adjust the AP if it drops at the point of order and if they won’t play ball I take my business to a dealer that will. Also, it amazes me how many people try to negotiate important matters by a phone call. Never a good idea. The best resolutions are always achieved face to face.
