You may need a new router which should be supplied by your provider. No changes are needed to your existing devices ie. PC, tablet, mobile, smart TV etc. apart from logging into the new router’s WiFi.
No chance of it here until late 2025 or even late 2026 I’m afraid, good old BT/Openreach 🙁
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

September 6, 2024 at 9:46 am #288017Your FTTP provider will provide you with an Optical Network Terminator (ONT). Basically the ONT acts as a modem, coverting optic (light) signals to electric signals. You then connect from Asus WAN port to the port on the ONT box.
September 6, 2024 at 11:11 am #288019I hope it’s that simple guys. I’m sure I’ll let you know how it goes.
At the moment I have an old BT modem and have a wire (R45?) to the ASU’s router.
and behind the telly looks likes a snakes wedding so I may tidy that up.Skoda Enyaq Race Blue

September 6, 2024 at 12:22 pm #288025Our area has just been done, we can now get 1000mbps. I’m wanting to sign up for it but we have a monitored alarm system that uses the phone line and I’m thinking it’s going to be a pain converting it.

Who do use for the ARC or does it alert you?
September 6, 2024 at 1:21 pm #288030@kezo it’s a company called Amco. Been with them for years, they challenge the intruders using a speaker and ring you when the alarm is triggered.

Is your alarm Texecom or Pyronix ?
September 6, 2024 at 2:31 pm #288036September 6, 2024 at 2:34 pm #288038My internet and phone are with CloudScape Connect. Not the cheapest but the most excellent support.
I’ve been recommended TP-Link Deco S7 for the Mesh set up. Anyone any thoughts on them?
My new modem/router arrived today!

we were a bit worried tbh, as despite never having used it in anger, the re-assurance that its there is more than worth the cost. So the fact we didnt have to get rid of it (we werent going to miss out on FTTP) was a huge relief 🙂
September 6, 2024 at 3:30 pm #288043@kezo it’s a Texecom.
Texecom Monitor provides a digital solution and likely to be cmpatable with your current monitoring. BT’s digital voice adaptor (available from BT £20ish) and is known to work with existing PTSN equipment. The downfall is it needs to be plugged into an existing socket and the phone connection from your alarm plugging into it which is not what I’d class as high security but, perhaps you have a cupboard nearby with a socket in and can disguise it.

Do you struggle in some rooms for wifi, hence the need for something like a Mesh setup?

@kezo I was thinking the alarm needed to be plugged into the new router, is this not the case? Do we still need a phone line, we don’t use the phone for anything else, we don’t even have a physical phone plugged into the wall socket, it’s just the router and alarm system.Cheers

Does your existing alarm setup use a phone line or internet?
September 6, 2024 at 4:53 pm #288050My over 55’s bungalow has an old duffers monitor system fitted, pull cords in every room (which if you fall down you can’t reach!), a pendant to wear and a wall box in the passage (I’ve put a jam jar lid over the call button as I often stagger into it at 4am on my way to the loo!), no idea how it connects (assuming radio) but there’s no connection to the phone line for it and it’s certainly not connected to my router or WiFi.

It’s hard wired into the back of the BT wall box using the phone line.

Even though you don’t use a landline, you still actually have a phone number and pay line rental and you use your alarm through this?
Therefore you still require a landline or in the case of FTTP you would use VOIP. As far as I know BT include line rental in the price of their packages, unless you specifically state you don’t want a home phone line. The issue going this way is you would need a digital, such as Texecom Monitor, rather than analogue speach dialer for your alarm. The other problem apart from cost, is will AMCO still be able to communicate ovver digital.
The most straight forward option would be BT’s digital voice adaptor as, described previous. This would allow you to use analogue equipment.

September 6, 2024 at 9:05 pm #288065Cheers Kezo, I’ll probably go for it, Amco have always been good, I’m sure they’l sort it for me. BRSK have some great deals at the moment.
September 7, 2024 at 2:04 pm #288087I believe you can have FTTP for your internet and if you have an existing copper phone line, you can keep that going. But I don’t know for how long.
You will not be able to get a new copper line to your house in future.
