Keep An Eye On The Dealer Website After Ordering

Two weeks ago I ordered a Volvo XC40 B3 Plus at a Volvo dealer through Motability, I also wanted some extras on the car which I had to pay on my own £600. Today I checked the dealer page to find that the car I had ordered has been upgraded by the manufacturer to include all but one of these upgrades.
I called the dealership to confirm that my car would be supplied with the upgrades and I didn’t have to pay.
The answer was a resounding NO, they expected me to pick the vehicle up and pay extra for what is now standard while the guy behind could have got it all for nothing.
I had to cancel the order and make a new one which means I will have some money left over from my Motability Advanced Payment instead of owing them.
I did complain to Volvo about this but they couldn’t even find my order.

so please keep an eye on your dealer website for unannounced upgrades to vehicles after your order. The dealership will not inform you.

When we were last looking to change (3 years ago) the worst dealership by a country mile was Volvo. They were so bad and unhelpful I complained to Volvo UK and they didn’t want to know either. I appreciate that it can vary enormously by dealership, but I was quite relieved that I found a car that I preferred from a different manufacturer.

We weren’t impressed by our local Volvo dealership either.  We felt that we just weren’t the kind of clientele that they’re used to dealing with.

Not a Waylands dealership by any chance was it? Had disgusting service from them so walked away. Johnsons Volvo of Gloucester have been great so far at their end, not much they can do about getting almost zero info from Volvo UK though especially regarding all the port delays & factory shutdowns over getting no parts in with the Red Sea problems & then the farmers protests in Belgium.

It’s amazing how judgemental some car sales people can be about Motability customers, yet many of those entitled to a Motability car may have a salary, or even pension, that’s way in excess of what these snooty car salespersons can earn.

If Volvo want to be a premium brand they need to understand that you can’t stereotype who has money and who doesn’t. When I was in my BMW dealers a young chap who looked as rough as hell was enquiring about a new M4. When the salesperson enquired how he intended to finance the purchase his reply was one word – “cash” ?

Mid level drug dealers do like a BMW (I hear)

                2024 - BMW i4 Grand Coupe eDrive 35 Sport
                2020 - Volvo XC40 T4 Inscription
                2017 - Audi Q3 TFSi Sport S-Tronic

True, but I happen to think that this guy might have been from another community that often has a distant relationship with the law ?

Back when I ordered a VW Golf on a 64 plate I spoke to the dealer the week before my order date started and said to them I was adding three options at a cost of about £400.

The day before the appointment at the dealership to order the car Motability added the Golf Match to their AP price list at the same AP as the lesser model and the dealers face told a story when I said forget the trim I was going to order and go for the Match. It wasn’t all bad news for the dealer though because I added a forth option with the money I saved not paying for the other options. ☺️

So I too say” keep an eye on the dealer” and Motability AP’s.
