Hi all
Had someone crash into the rear of my vehicle heading towards Gleneagles and after reporting it to Motability/insurance I was told by repairer that it wouldn’t be repaired until January sometime but my current lease ends in December and looks as if my new vehicle will be available then but I have winter tyres on my vehicle as I have prosthetics and it’s safer for getting to/from work so a courtesy car wouldn’t be ideal for that length of time but Motability have stated I can still collect my new vehicle and pass insurance details to dealership if the car hasn’t been repaired by then..what a nightmare but s..t happens.

One thing, did Motability approve the winter tyres ? (I assume they weren’t fitted as standard). I asked about fitting winter or all season tyres to my Ateca as the factory Bridgestones are useless, they said no, only standard tyres are allowed, anything else will void the insurance.
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
Was that recently Phaedra? I only ask as there’s an entire page on the Motability site about using winter tyres and it looks like, as long as you’re covering the costs, it’s absolutely supported. Just wondered if this was new information for you…

I’m sure Mb allow winter/all season tyres, along with snow chains as long as you pay the costs yourself!
It would have been late 2020 or early 2021, I got the car in June 2020 and the first snow I went out in it was literally undriveable, no grip whatsoever, even in just 1cm. I rang Motability but they never mentioned anything about being able to have them swapped out and stored, just said any alteration to the factory tyres would invalidate the insurance, typical Motability, depends who you get when you ring 🙁

The dimwits probably thought you were changing the wheels not just the tyres ?
I have not heard of any insurance company, voiding insurance just because some on has changed the tyres for a different brand or season type, so long they are compatible with the vehicle type and load.
Wish I’d known, I’ve avoided driving any time it snows for over 3 years !!

Hi, around 4 years ago complained to Motability that the car was unsafe to drive and would loose grip and slide. It was winter and all 4 tyres were just above the 1.6 mm and quickfit were refuseing to fit new tyres.
Then added my autistic son would go into a fit and start screaming every time the car slid. Thus meaning he would no longer go out in the car.
Mobility othorised a complete new set of tyres and after more talking Michelin Cross Climates were fitted.
I took from this that at that time if you had a medical issue then Motability would pay for none standard tyres.
