Hi, I’m picking up my 2nd motability car and handing back (obviously) my current car and was wondering what’s expected when you give the car back; does it need to be sparklingly clean inside and out. Mine was was gleaming outside after its recent service but because of the rain and the rural area I live in it’s now a bit dirty but not to the point where it’s desperate for a clean.
A rather long winded way of asking what most people do when they hand the car back at the end of their lease!

I hand my vehicles back sparkling, but I’m an old fashioned old codger and probably not typical. As long as it’s clean inside as a courtesy to people who have to get in and out of it after you drop it off, that’s as much as you need to do. The rest is down to pride in appearance, and that can be expensive if you aren’t physically able to wash and valet the car yourself and have to pay to have it done.
Enjoy your new vehicle.
July 17, 2023 at 6:51 pm #227059Quick wash and a vaccum, otherwise that’s it.
July 17, 2023 at 7:07 pm #227060A trip to the local hand car wash, £15 for inside and out is a good investment for your GCB.
Dealers have always commented as to how nice my hand backs are, some people just don’t bother. An old pal of mine never used to make any effort when handing back and he still always got his GCB. I think it’s got to be pretty bad not to get it.
If I seem a little strange, that's because I am.

July 17, 2023 at 7:47 pm #227061Wasn’t really thinking about GCB more trying to get a feel for what’s ok. My new car has arrived much quicker than expected and probably not surprisingly, washing is impossible for me and vacuuming my car isn’t much easier. I’ll probably go to local Tesco and get it done!
July 17, 2023 at 8:01 pm #227063The cars are all veleted as soon as they come in, so it doesnt make any difference.
Some call it valeting others call it decontamination…lol. Its done before anyone can touch it.
I wouldnt worry too much about it.
I personally like to leave things better than I found them. Except this was a new car….not gonna beat that….lol.

Eaxactly this, the day before hand back. Not as my cars are dirty anyway.
July 17, 2023 at 8:37 pm #227087Clean it myself and vacuum inside. I won’t hand a dirty car back but i also won’t go as far as spending my money to have it professionally cleaned.

Renault AustralJuly 18, 2023 at 6:00 am #227109I’ve always given mine a quick hoover and usually go through the hand car wash a bit earlier in the week so I get to enjoy last few days with a clean car.
I wouldn’t worry if it’s too difficult to do this. All the dealers have someone to valet the cars if they need it so it’s not worth putting yourself through a load of pain

Djw38ukWhere are you getting inside and out for £15?!
Albeit I have a Kuga, my local carwash is now £40 inside and out (£30 standard car) and £14 for just an outside wash of mine!
July 18, 2023 at 9:21 am #227123Wash and clean, inside and out, day before handover. A must with the guide dog leaving the 3/4 finished statue of herself made out of cast off hair in the boot…hope we get a labradoodle next time…lol.
All the birds nests for a 3 mile radius must be lined with her hair, they love it when she gets groomed on the patio.
Leather/Vegan plastic interior a must, getting golden hair out of the black/grey interior is a royal pain.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

Lord mucDjw, I always return mine very clean, there is a very decent car wash, in purley way, Croydon. £15 for full inside with hanging air freshener, and outside. Its so good, it’s often easier to go there than to get out the hose, pressure washer and snow foam gun. Bring it back, and ceramic spray coat at home.
July 18, 2023 at 10:16 am #227130Just so everyone is aware
REF/Handback GCB
You can return your car to any motorbility dealer irrespective of manafacturer
Just pre arrange before doing so
Word to the wise
If returning on a Saturday the GCB inspection may well be untaken by junior staff
As it was in my case
We all failed to notice the absence of the parcel shelf which yrs later still remains in my shed
July 18, 2023 at 11:09 am #227134I personally just make sure all the removable interior items and accesorries that came with the vehicle are present ansd that all the rubbish is removed from the interior, though its not much as I tend to keep the interior vehicle clean anyhow.
Exterior if its dirty its dirty I am not to bothered especially given how the weather can change so quickly and to be honest there’s nothing more a vehicle inspector likes more than a nice shiny vehicle to inspect as you can clearly see any scratches and dents etc.
The vehicle once handed over will be shipped to a refurb centre and washed and valated again so I dont really see the point in washing and cleaning it throughly before handing it back but each to there own.

Roy HarringtonHi there, never paid more that £15 for a ‘inside/outside’ valet most hand wash/interior hand service, are about this price in the Essex area, would not pay £40+ for this service just not worth it, seems a bit of cheek for a very few minuets work by a team of workers, I only have this done when I am going somewhere special otherwise, when I feel I can do it, I wash and hoover myself, but does take much longer than the hand wash service though, a nice feeling to drive a newly cleaned car, or am I just a bit sad?
As for the hand back….leave it as you collected it (check well inside and boot for any left items) clean and tidy don’t forget to remove any stickers you may had added over the past 3 years, but go overboard the dealer will valet it anyway no matter how it is handed back.

Roy HarringtonDJW, Just do what you can, nobody at the new dealership are going to make a great fuss about a slightly dirty car, so please don’t worry about it, if you car is a bit on the dirty side when you hand it back just explain you cannot clean it yourself and leave it like that. Good luck with you ‘new’ vehicle, what is it by the way?
