Well now my first choice has gone (mini JCW)I’ve now considered a shortlist being Cupra Born 3 though uncertain that EV use is set up properly across the UK and has a long way to go.Another vehicle that interests me and always has is the DS7 however the diesel choice available doesn’t get good reviews.I can select from September so there may be changes before then but still hoping the JCW returns if not and if I don’t change I’ll be more than happy and appreciate keeping my BMW Gran coupe for another two years .What’s your opinion?

Keep what you’ve got while you can. If you need to extend to 5 years, it’s just a button click on the Motability website. We’re in uncertain times but, hopefully, as the World starts to normalise after Covid things will start to return the normal we all remember.
I tend to agree about EV not being ready for prime time despite being very inclined to think the next car will be an EV purely because 99% of our journeys will be covered with home charging.
If you happy with your Gran coupe, extend it for two years, If something comes on in the meantime you can place an order at any point during your lease extension.
We aren’t due to change until next July (order in April) and every quarter I go through the new lists in detail and make a shortlist of what interests me. Sadly, the list seems to get shorter every quarter and whilst there are a few cars that ‘might do’, there is nothing that I would really ‘want’ or desire!
I don’t want an EV (which seems to be all that Motability are focussing on these days) but would consider a PHEV, although I know that these are a compromise. Don’t really fancy (or need) a diesel, so another petrol is the most likely choice.
Similar to you, there is nothing on the scheme that comes even remotely close to our current BMW X1 2.0i 4WD, so any change would feel like a step down. I’m not a fan of lease extensions as I think they are a rip off and make the whole life cost of leasing the car more than if I’d bought the damned thing, but if I thought that scheme choice was starting to improve I might extend in the knowledge that I could order the minute that something good came on, but there’s no sign of that direction of travel yet (EV’s excepted), so I might bite the bullet and leave the scheme and go down the private route. I am fortunate that I can consider this option and I would get something that’s never going to be on the scheme, so wouldn’t be making comparisons!
I would prefer to stay with Motability as it’s easier, but I’m not prepared to pay the huge costs of having a Motability vehicle for something that I wouldn’t choose in the open market. There are 3 more quarter changes before we need to think about it, so hopefully something might interest me by then.
Similar situation, can change now, so extended mine, there is only the two of us, so no need for an suv, nothing seems to match the gran coupe, in terms of style and tech, leather type, heated seats, wireless google/apple ect. The Ap for a new one is two high, condersidering there are no improvements, if it had the new BMW HD wrap around dash then maybe, and leather is now an option, the car at the dealers was knocking on 40k, mine was invoiced at around 25k. I have been looking at the alfa tonale, but again not getting anything extra, and only black interiors, if the higher specs came on, like the phev volace, i would seriously consider it. If the mustang dropped to a sensible ap, that would be on the list. The only reasonable option for change, would the mini convertible. I Like the Born, but feel it may not have a quality finish, need to see one.
I do keep reading that the charging structure in UK is not sufficient.
Currently there are 25,413 publuc charging site (May 2033) with 43,620 chargers PLUS the thousands of home chargers.

Yes, we have to change the mindset that you must carry a tank of power around with us all the time, that people travel 600 miles a day, that just doesn’t happen often and you still have to stop for food and comfort breaks, apart from the fact that amount of driving is stupid and dangerous.
