My satnav in a VW Tiguan has been getting updates OK. There are some users saying the maps are not updating on the latest models but I think this is down to cars with a built in SIM having updates done in the background but these are only local maps updates, a bit like current traffic conditions.
My guess its simply the data never got to you due to weak signals or info had not been passed to the provider, happens even with TomTom who I highy rate for live traffic.
If it’s a VAG problem one thing I think can stop updates working, traffic or maps, is changing privileges because like Google wanting to know what soap powered or tea bags you buy, VW need to know where you are to be able to push the correct information to your car. I know when I set my car up a few months ago I had to more or less agree to all there conditions or go without all the benefits of the system, much like Google.
If your updates have been OK up to now and you have the built in SIM it could be just poor network signal or an accidental change of privileges as you can turn each agreement on and off anytime you like.
One other thing to remember, in my case anyway, is the free SIM data for your car is only for 3 years and after that you have to buy data or, hopefully get the data from your smartphone but I will cross that bridge when I get to it.
