I agree no system of measuring wealth is perfect. There will be anomalies whichever system is used. But perhaps the biggest advantage for those Countries that have abandoned the British Empire and those in the process of doing so, is that they can avoid hard right Tory governments and their disastrous decisive policies.
Now I don’t know if you can quantify that advantage in monetary terms but given the current governments penchant for corruption, addiction to lies, bigotry, racism and ineptitude, I am sure that becoming independent just to avoid having that plague inflicted on you must be very attractive.
Please don’t come back with”they’re all the same” because the Tories have taken sleaze and all associated with it to new depths. Whatever mistakes and misdemeanours the SNP have made pale into insignificance by comparison.
No Union is worth saving where the largest entity has no respect for the other members and unfortunately I do not see that attitude changing in the foreseeable future.
