True, I can’t see why their system can’t generate the pass/fail criteria on handover and offer to either pay the dealer, who subsequently reduces the AP or pays you in the normal way if the AP (or portion of it) is less than £600. Then again they only recently moved to electronic payment, the necessary system changes to allow the above would need some decent software coding and, based on their website issues, I doubt they would get it right!

Its not rocket science, they already assess the condition live with the dealer while you wait.

Handing out cash before the day has its own issues around cars failing the GCB and then having to get the money back from disabled people who are not necessarily able nor willing to pay…a PR nightmare right there. I can see the headline….Billion pound Fat Cat Motability sends Bailiffs to poor Disabled Gran to force her to pay measly £600.

Not to mention the extra admin burden requiring more staff paid out of our money

Our FE College has a similar issue with trying to reclaim fees paid to students who drop out, we write off huge sums every year as it just isn’t possible. We also have hundreds paying a few pound a month. Its crazy, and the write offs are public funds – however, the public would hang us for not reclaiming it AND hang us for chasing poor students for a few quid…you can’t win no matter what you do.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
