Liked the outside but the inside put me off

I am fortunate that our xc40 ticks the boxes for inside and outside looks, but before we got it I really liked the Peugeot 5008 I went for a test drive fully expecting to order that day. However as soon as I got in a new it wasn’t for me. Although its a big car i felt claustrophobic so it was removed from our list.

Has anyone else had a similar experience with a car?

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.

Had exact same feeling .The 5008 looks big but the cabin although designed around driver,it didnt feel right and straight away knew was’nt for us.Ended up ordering new qashqai which to the eye is smaller but cabin wise felt so much better.

Same here –  5008 and its predecessor and the 3008 too. I don’t want the car wrapped around me.

I’ve always said you can’t make a decision on a car until you’ve seen it in real life. There have been plenty of times over the years I’ve been excited to see a car and after about 30 seconds of sitting in it just thought no this isn’t for me. Some that spring to mind are the Nissan qashqai (not the new one but the one before) and the VW T-Roc. I still think they look good but wouldn’t have one myself

trock made me laugh a lot, got it why car was being serviced and I sat in it adjusted the seat and as I was getting out to say this is not going to work, the service manager was comming out with a different set of keys lol, he said he spotted instantly my shoulders and head were vissible through back door windows and I am only a 6 footer.

We had the Ford Kuga on our shortlist. I don’t mind the look of it and the PHEV version has a better real world range than the XC40 PHEV. Road tests were all pretty good too. However, when we sat in it the interior quality was so ‘low rent’ compared to every other cars on our shortlist we dismissed it immediately.

I quite like the look of the Peugeot 3008 exterior but hated the low steering wheel and central  instrument binnacle. That would give me a stiff neck ?

Had a look at the Qashqai some time back. Thought the outside was OK but knew it was wrong as soon as we sat inside. It just felt cheap, nasty and uncomfortable. Must be just us because it seems to have sold well.

Complete opposite with Troc. Didn’t like the look from outside. Initial reaction was, “Oh, well, I’ll have to get a Golf then.” However, the moment I got inside, changed mind completely. I’m 5′ 11″ and fitted perfectly. Actually raised the seat a bit for better view. Now potter about in my Troc in most comfy manner. Also glad I chose Troc because the Motab Golfs were not available with 190-odd bhp 2.0L lump driving through a gutsy 4X4 trans!

I’m going to be slightly controversial here but as great a car as the vw I.D.3 is the interior feels like it’s a much cheaper car. I’m actually quite glad I didn’t order one

I can get into my Kona with a proper hat on without touching doorline.

Now as I can’t bend neck much it shows how high the opening is.

One of the surprising things about it. Inside it’s pretty Spartan tho.

I thought the qashqui was fairly nice inside on the tenka plus.

Had a different but similar (?) experience when we tried a Mazda CX5, back in the good ol’ days of 2019.

In the showroom we were very impressed with the quality of materials, fit and finish and standard equipment. “Almost Audi” is what we thought (we had a Q3 at the time)

Once on the road, what a disappointment. The 2.0 petrol automatic felt weedy and if you tried to rev it, it sounded strained. The ride was harsh and the seats which felt fine in the showroom had us sliding about in anything other than a slow corner.

Shows the importance of a proper extended test drive and not just a quick sit in the showroom.

I am not a fan of the Peugeot setup either. So much so, I wouldn’t even have a look at one.

Many years ago I went from a VW Golf which had a button for the heated rear window to a Renault which had more buttons than mission control.
