Just after a bit of advise. I’m currently on my 2nd motability car. It’s one which I drive from my wheelchair and so has hand controls and adaptions for my wheelchair. My current lease is due to expire next August, after having it for 5 years. So, I had a letter from motability to call them about arrangements for my next vehicle. On the phone they asked me my milage and what I used it for etc. Then they told me that at the end of my current lease they wouldn’t be providing me a new vehicle and would extend my lease for another 2 years and then possibly another 2 after that. I was a bit shocked as I just assumed it would be like my last vehicle and get swapped after 5 years (as I have had a few issues with this vehicle). They said I can extend the lease or my other option is to hand the car back. They are phoning me back in the new year to get my decision. I was just wondering if this is a new thing that motability are doing and if its happened to anyone else?

Hi Shannon,

My ‘guess’ is that the current mileage on the vehicle is less than 60,000 and that by the end of the Hire Term, Motability are assessing that it will still be less than 100,000 based upon your current usage.

The Hire Term is stated on Agreement document, and continues automatically after the end of the Minimum Hire Term – being five years. This fact also being subject to other T’s & C’s.

Best to check the Agreement just to verify both the Minimum Hire Term and the Hire Term (maximum / end date / period).

I always thought the lease was for a maximum of 5 years.

On my lease agreement (for a car) the Minimum Term is 3-years, but thereafter up to a further 2-years.
