Does it matter? as birds can fly. So it’s not a case of how high, it’s a case of not being to low. So cats etc can’t get them.

if its just a generic bird box just high enough to prevent predators getting at them.

if your after attracting a specific species then maybe more complicated eg swifts etc under eaves for example.

          rspb website will have suggestions.

Joss is right there MM, the birds will fly to it easier than us getting up ladders, mine is just below the up stairs  window ledge..

However if you can’t get that high just a few rungs up will do, or even a chair to stand on if you’re able to..

Try facing it away from wind though, slightly shaded if possible..

            Thats just my opinion though?..

I think I’d put one under the underhand of the roof, attached to the wall..

Oh what I did find is 29mm entrance hole housed Great tits and Sparrows, but if you want Blue tits/Coal tits 27mm entrance hole is the one, with a well sanded entrance hole..

Not sure but it think for Robins and Blackbirds they prefer open front boxes (best check that though)..

I do enjoy the birds around the garden however it can cost a few quid in seed, nuts, and the suet products available these days, not to mention the meal worms too ?
