Our daughters motability car will be 2 years old next month so will need its first service. Can anyone tell me do motability contact us to tell us to book it in or do we just go ahead and book it in?

      Thanks for any help.

I’ve always gone ahead and booked the servicing myself.

Hi, Your Dealer should notify you that the car service is due but no matter you can contact them and arrange the service when it is convenient to you, you should be provided with a curtesy car, this you will have to request at time of booking the service, if they say cannot provide one, then go to Motability, cheers Michael

The servicing for my car is every year and like Michael said the dealer should contact you, Motability won’t, but on my first year the dealer never rang and I happened to be passing the dealer the day before the 365 days were up and the dealer did the service there and then so I saved them a few quid for my troubles.

This year being year number 2 and second service they did ring and booked it in.

So the bottom line is you need to keep an eye on the date the car needs to be service because you can’t rely on the dealer even though they get penalties from Motability of hard cash if they don’t service a car on time.

The dealer usually contacts you cause they want the business but it’s your responsibility to ensure it is done on time, just call them up to get it booked in. You can go to any garage that services your make of car, you are not tied to the one it came from.

You only get a curtesy car if you request one, if they have one available and you may have to pay for the insurance… book early to give yourself the best chance of getting one.  Otherwise many garages will collect and return the car from your house/work etc.

All courtesy vehicles whether supplied by a dealer or hire company are covered on your RSAM insurance policy, there may be a fuel deposit but t pay but never anything for insurance.

Yes you never have to pay for insurance on a courtesy car under motability where on Earth did you get that from ?

If you get a car from a hire company this may apply,

“You will be responsible for any unrecorded damage and may need to pay an insurance excess.”

Always check the vehicle over thoroughly and take photos if you can, especially the fuel level as they have been known to just lie and charge you a fortune for missing fuel and non recorded damage.

Unfortunately involved in an accident last week, and Enterprise courtesy car had RSA insurance for duration. Same terms, excess etc.

A little odd that it was the same insurance for a 4.0l Audi Q5 unavailable on the scheme, but nice to know it’s only £100 excess.

as Tim states above the insurance is the same as RSA and all excess charges are the same, no deposits should be taken either, dealerships should phone to book in service but this can be missed, a quick call to your chosen dealership given them your reg and mileage should sort things out.

our service garage has just phoned yesterday asking if we are keeping the vehicle as the service is due in 2 weeks, even though we only had the letter Monday saying we can start looking and order from 28th October, so instead of a 3 month window we need to decide in a couple of weeks as to extend or not.
