Intermittent wipers. What’s your preference?

The Sharan (and the Kuga before it) has auto wipers which, usually, act in an intermittent fashion when it’s not really raining, just spitting. There is a sensitivity adjustment available which sort of adjusts the interval of wipe.

Personally, I prefer having a dedicated intermittent setting with an adjustable interval ie. every 3,6,9,12 seconds .

      What’s everyone else’s preference?

My last four cars have had auto wipers and lights and the honda i have now has the most adjustment of them all, where the wipers are concerned. Something i have become used to, yep sometimes they go off on a sunny day due to a flash of light so i turn them off. Normally i want to keep the screen as free of spots as possible. As the more there are on the screen the more my brain hurts. So the auto wipers is great imo. Some cars there big gaps between certain settings and i do find that, sometimes either to much or to little action. It does depend on how much rain.

The headlights on the new one are auto height adjusting and thats a first for me, also high beam assist. After a while you get very used to having these almost hassle free auto tools.

I keep mine turned off then turn on into auto mode with the first few drops of rain then leave them till I complete my journey then turn them off again.

The reason I turn them off is because they seem to be a bit slow at starting sometimes and the compete off and on when needed seems to reset them.

The sensitivity I have on number 2 or 3 out of 4.

Although I drive with one hand I can reach the stalk for the wipers with my little finger from the steering ball remote control so just press down once to clear the odd splash.

Don’t have an intermittent timed wipe on my KIA that I know of only the auto or slow, fast continuous manual and one press down single wipe.

The S-Max has the same, it has variable auto intermittent. I often turn off auto anyway as I hate wipers going on a near dry screen.

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

My company car has manual wipers whereas I’m used to auto ones. Definitely prefer the auto set up which switches off on it’s own when the rain stops and regulates itself to the intensity of the rain. I’m always having to fiddle with the controls on the manual system.

My old Alhambra had auto setting but it was mental, always going from the odd wipe to full beans regardless of how wet the screen was and it would never reactivate after stopping and starting the car. ?‍♂️

The new one has auto but also has a separate intermittent setting that’s matched to your speed, I find I use the single wipe until the rain gets stronger and the the intermittent setting, the auto function is as dumb as every other car I’ve ever driven and just as random.

Auto lights on the other hand I’ve had on all my cars now for the last 8-9 years and the intelligent high beam on the latest few is a great feature, so much so that I can’t remember the last time I manually used the lights, I am happy in the knowledge that I will never be driving at night with no lights on or just the DRL’s like some muppets you see.

My preference is to see the the road and cars in front.
Dam wet stuff gets in the way.
