Carl
Over 7 million people a year die as a result of polluted air and much of the global problem is generated by vehicles. Since the outbreak of CV19 and people being forced to live a simple life without much need for driving and polution levels have plummeted and our beautiful world is able to breath again!!
Is it time mobility lead the way and only facilitated the buying of electric or phev vehicles?? Now would be a great time to make this change for the good of everyone.

I think it is inevitable over the coming years Carl.

I am lucky to live near the sea and today would normally be packed. My wife reports from her walks that the beaches are blissfully empty. Ditto New Forest. No mass of contrails from the constant stream of tourists jets bound for Spain and Portugal. Bird song prominent.
My flying career took me to Delhi, Bangkok, Beijing, Sao Paulo and many other densely populated cities with often dangerous levels of toxic smog. They are all reporting clear blue skies and relatively fresh air.
Hopefully, the six month extension will allow a suitable EV to appear on the scheme, but need the easy access and load capacity of the Touran.
April 12, 2020 at 1:13 pm #111556a lot depends on the greed of the companies supplying the vehicles as the ap at the moment is horrendous for anything with a decent loadspace which the majority of us need and also the infrastructure to charge the vehicles is a big problem as we dont all live in large towns or cities
a lot of my journeys are rural and quite hilly so i guess my range would be a lot shorter than most

File28, the reverse actually, the least distance you get from a BEV is on the motorway. Long fast journeys reduce the range of batteries, lots of short, stop start, journeys give the best distance in a BEV. Lots of hills allows the battery to recharge using the regen facility found in most BEVs so you would expect decent range in your type of journey.

Wayne great car, inside and out.
Will never be on the scheme unfortunately.
April 12, 2020 at 5:03 pm #111567Thanks for the info brydo was thinking about the outlander before all this covid started and was due to re order in June for a September handover

Great in theory as long as Motability can provide those types of vehicles without excessive AP’s and allow them to be affordable for all?I love and respect our planet however I can’t go Greta’the worlds going to end’Thunberg and her marketing team that have made a comfortable living from her voice?

File28 there is a new outlander due out, so its likely it will be the new one you will get, if it comes on the scheme. The new one will likely command a higher AP but with little choice in the SUV plug in hybrid sector, I would expect it to sell well.

Absolutely not. There isn’t one EV or PHEV within the current price cap that suits my wife’s needs. We have no off street parking available to charge a vehicle either. I wish people wouldn’t try and thrust their own views onto everybody else.
April 12, 2020 at 11:22 pm #111583Brydo
Dave I don’t think anyone is trying to thrust their views onto anyone. We discuss lots of things on the forum and we all have a point of view and something to say. That doesn’t mean you have to agree Dave but we are all entitled you our opinion.
April 13, 2020 at 8:43 am #111590Hybrid maybe but not fully electric as not everybody lives in a house with a driveway and if you live in a flat you a pretty much screwed lol
April 13, 2020 at 8:58 am #111591I know that council’s can get money from the government to fit chargers in the street. I have also seen parking spaces marked disabled outside peoples houses who don’t have a drive way. What I don’t know is can the two be combined. Can a disabled person get a charger fitted outside their house, flat etc That is specifically for their use.

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.April 13, 2020 at 9:07 am #111593New build housing/flats aren’t really being built with chargers for cars so I can’t see them putting anything in for disabled spaces
the 5 yrs before the ban of petrol car production will see a rush to fit loads more charging points.
I just hope they’ve done the upgrades the the power grid to cope with thisApril 13, 2020 at 10:01 am #111595As regards EV charger the grant has been reduced from £500to £350.
A new development of affordable/social housing is to be built in our area with EV parking and roof solar panels.
Brydo any idea when the Outlander PHEV is due for UK release, I placed my order in February but obviously everything is on hold for the foreseeable future.

April 13, 2020 at 10:35 am #111596Oscarmax it was due in June/July but I’m not sure if that is still the case.

April 13, 2020 at 11:26 am #111600Yes interesting indeed, we should get a bit more clarity from motability over the coming weeks as a number of the manufacturers have, or are about to restart manufacturing cars. It would seem reasonable to suggest the showrooms will follow suit and start selling.

You advocated Motability only supplying EV or PHEVs. I am happy for a much greater choice of these being available for those who want them, but suggesting they should be the only vehicles available is totalitarian.
April 13, 2020 at 3:15 pm #111610That was Carl’s suggestion Dave, but totalitarian or not its coming our way, soon. Over the next five years the choice of BEVs will increase with diesel being almost non existent and petrol engines greatly reduced, WHY, because its the right thing to do.
One of the only good things to come out of this pandemic is the massive increase in air quality, imagine that all the time, imagine all cars electric.

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.April 13, 2020 at 9:58 pm #111643So where do they get the components needed to make all these batteries and how much of an impact on the environment and the earth’s resources will that make?
April 13, 2020 at 11:11 pm #111646martino
i dont think about that the impact ect im looking to reduce my fuel bill and EV is the way

Nothings perfect vinalspin but the batteries used now won’t be those used in five to ten years from now.
