There is a lot of knowledge amongst us, I exclude myself.

The COVID 19 is dominating the news:

      How worried should we be?

Will this be Spanish flu proportions or just another contained outbreak as SARS and MERS were?

Oh – and when will we start to see ‘Just in time’ manufacturing suffer?

In the grand scheme of things personally, I have other things happening to me medically that are more worrying than COVVID19.

I was in Hospital Thursday and Friday last week getting Blood transfusions of red blood cells. Causing severe Anaemia is a condition in which you lack enough healthy red blood cells to carry adequate oxygen to your body’s tissues. Having anaemia can make you feel tired and weak and shortness of breath.

I may have a rouge pacman lol

I’m so upset it has already spread to Europe, I’ve bought tickets and found nice apartments for rent in Calpe 🙁 Of course, people who got stuck at the airport must feel even worse, but I’ve been waiting for this trip for so long.

They must know something we don’t as relatively speaking as there are only a handful of cases in the UK yet over the last 10 years on average over 15,000 people a year die of the common Flu.

yep and 170,000 from Cancer and 170,000 from Heart disease plus 2 to 3 thousand in road accidents.

if  Coronavirus has 1% mortality we are looking at 600,000 deaths  if everone in the UK catches it which is a bit worrying but unlikely.  best guess is that 10% of the population will have noticable symptoms  so we may be looking at Up to 60,000 deaths…………………………………………………………..but at least it has taken Brexit off the headlines!!

I believe that the novel Coronavirus will become wide spread in the UK as none of us has any immunity to this brand new virus.

The illness should be no more than an unpleasant inconvenience to most of us, but I accept that certain groups of us will be more vulnerable to it’s more harmful effects.

I’m over seventy, I have a managed heart condition and other problems as well, so I’m in a statistically “higher risk of mortality” group.

We just have to get through the next year or so until there is an annual inoculation available (like the flu jab) and then Coronavirus will be just another of the many issues sent to try us, rather than a major threat.

Keep doing the recommended things such as regular soap and water hand washes etc, and stay calm as things work themselves out.

Let’s keep chatting about this and supporting each other through this period of uncertainty.

There are 600,000 deaths worldwide, each year, from flu. This virus will probably kill this many also.

They are working on a jab in America and its likely to be available next year, if the number of deaths go above predictions, expect the jab to be fast tracked just like the jab for Ebola.

It is likely the reaction to this virus is over the top and its to early to call the outcome but some would say “better safe than sorry”.

I’m all for preparedness but I feel that the media, aided and abetted by the government are hyping this one up a touch to the point of paranoia it seems for some people.

Hygene as ever is a must (should we even be needed to reminded of this or have we forgotten the basics in the rush to hashtag  our latest coffee on instagram?).

Im a little bit of a cynic, what will be will be I don’t think this rush to doomonger is helping anyone, keep an eye out, keep vigilant but perhaps save your money to buy yourself a nice jumper from next rather than a hazmat suit.

So, has anyone thought of getting COVID-19 as early as possible before the NHS becomes overloaded (it’s always overloaded), then make the full recovery & walk around with smug impunity….. or, get a decent burial spot in a proper grave before we start throwing the dead into plague pits?

My current strategy is to hopefully avoid COVID-19 as I have my eye on a 2021 model.

The difference between Flu and Coronavirus is that Coronavirus has a much more virulent pneumonia component.

Children, teenagers, younger adults etc will find this virus similar to flu, but those who are much older and have ongoing health problems are naturally more at risk.

It’s looking hopeful for the UK:

The Global Health Security Index’s recent comprehensive ranking of countries – published just four months ago – shows the United Kingdom ahead of every country other than the United States in its state of preparedness to deal with biological threats.

From what I read, restrictions may be placed on mass gatherings of people so games could continue with TV audiences but not with a live crowd in attendance.

How much of the stuff do people use? I’m convinced Mrs W uses 5 times as much as me. I stick by the old Army directive 3 sheets only – one up, one down and one to polish.

you are lucky if she only uses 5 times as much as you!!

I am sure that in my single days a roll would last weeks. now it seems daily changes are needed. mind you when we have both daughters home I seriously worry about the roll holder burning out.

I must say it’s a shame the. Gov. UK site does not have printable signs for the likes of pubs/shops/*public spaces etc, this would cost them nothing yet make alot of difference. I think every time I walk into a shop or pub, cafe etc we should be reminded to wash hand and sanitizer available.

                                                  Damn Trump!

The USA have now banned people who have been to Europe (Schengen area) in the last 14 days due to coronavirus.

I was over at Airbus in Toulouse last week on a business trip (took the wife and we stayed the weekend to look around the Toulouse area).

This coming Sunday, we were due to fly to Phoenix Arizona to see our newly born grandson.

Guess we won’t be going now.

The good lady is furious, particularly as it was going to be her first time flying first class!

BA have been tremendous in trying to re-arrange things, but due to work commitments and hospital appointments etc we were pretty fixed with being over there from this Sunday until 27th March.

So, we have re-booked to go in late May. Hopefully Trump will relax the rules once the hysteria dies down. As I have a couple more work trips to Toulouse and Hamburg/Finkenwerder next month, we went for late May to give ourselves a 28 day ‘fire-break’ between Europe and USA trips.
