@phil this was exactly my point to them. Not only do I feel it’s an invasion of privacy but also it’s essentially unenforceable anyway unless they literally follow people with cameras or something. Even if they did that they’d still be hard pressed proving the ‘benefit’ of the journey and all they can then really do it would seem would be to issue a warning regarding misuse. It’s just silly and it doesn’t seem well thought through.

I’ve also seen a statistic that stated that only roughly 5% of motability vehicles on the road are tracked. Ithere are other nominated driverss living at other addresses why are these people not being tracked? Why me specifically? Yes I have university but do they really think all of these people don’t have other commitments. It’s surely factual that a massive chunk of them will.

I’d argue as well that trackers can be seen as synonyms with those who do wrong. Would it be fair for the police to track certain people just because they assumed they might be more likely criminals?

These reasons and all the others I’ve gone over are why I think this is really unethical. If I had the money for an alternative I’d leave the scheme today which is a shame as I’ve always been very impressed with motability.

Maybe after a certain period of time of me proving my usage is correct they’ll remove it. I doubt it though.

@delta as mentioned I’ve been informed by motability the distance between myself and my mum has nothing to do with the tracker, believe me I quizzed them fully as to why after 6 years this suddenly has to happen.

It’s because of the fact that I now don’t live with my mum and the fact that I have other commitments. There is a lady on another forum who posted that her daughter who moved round the corner, presumably under 5 miles away then, had to have one fitted. I would also assume even if I did live with her it would be possible that they may fit one providing that other circumstances mean the car might be considered at risk of misuse.

The decision for the tracker was based upon the questions the lady asked my mum on her initial call about our situation.

By this logic then if you were to sign up to motability today for the first time in the same or a similar situation then the tracker should apply.

Also for anybody interested I was sent a little leaflet on the tracker. It works by the driver switching on the ignition. So if I leave my house it Mark’s the location, wherever I next stop and start the car it marks. It also notes the time at each point.
