We were given this as a loaner while our tiguan is getting repaired. It is the 23 plate but I can see that it is not the newest that got released just recently.

I think the car is priced nicely against the competition but we personally prefer our tiguan more.

Firstly the engine, we are given the plug in hybrid version. The power is adequate but the economy is shocking. We do a lot of mileage and we are averaging just above 30mpg (tiguan is 42-45 (2.0 diesel)). If you plug it in, you do get 30 miles of electric range. But because we are not used to electric cars yet, we do ignore plugging it in now and then.

As for features, It is jammed pack with everything you would possibly need but we have found the quality of the features as average and rather annoying. Things such as reversing sensors, the beeping is all over the place. Like when we are reversing, the beeping is incosistent with the distance remaining, it would have been better if there wasn’t any sensors in first place.

Secondly, the driving assistance features such as active lane keep assist: With the tiguan, the car would just remain in the middle of the lane for miles and miles. MG on other hand would start well but after few seconds, it keeps going side to side, almost over correcting once and then tries to recover by correcting to other direction, and this would just continue happening very fast so it feels you are rocking side to side a bit. Other thing which is overly annoying, are the beeps and warnings. The car always thinks our hands are not on the wheel when driving down a straight peice of road on the motorway. We have to constantly put little more pressure than normal on the steerting wheel. We are actively having to take steps to avoid it throwing warnings. Gets exhausting on a long drive. Then there is lane changing, usually i just give half a signal (where it flashes temporarily 3 times) while changing lanes. This has been fine on the tiguan. The MG, nope. A lot of times, it throws lane departure warning because I started fraction earlier or later during signaling. It just doesn’t give us pleasant experience when driving.

Thirdly, the heater controls and also adaptive cruise controls. Heater controls are all on the screen. The screen isnt exactly the fastest. You can physically feel the distraction while operating the screen controls. It responds after your brain thinks of tapping it again because it probably didn’t register. Then the cruise controls, they are around left side at the bottom. They take getting used to but they are annoying to operate at the beginning as they are not visible at all when you first start to drive.

Finally the size vs space. It seems bigger than our tiguan from the outside but definitely feels smaller from the inside. My mother is the one with disability, and she keeps making comments of how the space is lacking for her (in comparision to tiguan) on each seat she tries.

In summary, the car on paper looks the best but it was evident for us atleast, to not be conviced by it. It just doesn’t seem like a refined car. If I didn’t have the tiguan for comparision, i would find less issues with this car…

Our tiguan is coming to an end of our 5 year lease at the end of this year, sadly vw don’t have them anymore. We have placed an order for DS7 but are thinking that if DS7 build doesn’t go ahead before tiguan is back on the scheme, we are thinking of cancelling and queuing for the tiguan

It really irks me that the review doesn’t mention real mpg once the battery is depleted. I know that many don’t drive long range and for them, the claimed mpg makes sense. But there are plenty others that do. Many reviews fail to mention that if you are doing long drives, you are actually looking at below 40mpg at best. Not bad for the car this size but it far away from the claimed 188mpg

Tiguan is such a nice car. We are collecting ours next week wednesday. Got it from reading VW. They are doing £350 off so it was a great deal for us.

We got SEL in indium grey aswell – i think its the best colour for that car, since it hides the plastics really well.

My only concern is that i got diesel model and things are looking rather bad for it. Apparently something about banning it from major cities across europe. And seeing how diesel is constantly 10p higher than petrol nowadays, you may want to consider the petrol option…it gives same power and near enough economy compared to diesel.

          Good Luck buddy!

I will second Trev on the CX-5.

The sport nav+ trim in petrol automatic – its £1499 AP. But there is no other car that can match its features for the price. Its absolute premium quality! Full leather with heated steering/seats. LED lights, Bose sound system and sunroof too. Also has adaptive cruise control/lane keep for those long journeys.

Definitely test drive this! You will be surprised i think 🙂

              Hello Benito,

I am new to motability myself and i am interested to know how the situation works if the motability car is involved in an accident. Surely, we just contact RSAM and they would sort everything out, including the hire car process too? Are we not allowed to choose our own garage of repair and such?

From my previous experience dealing with non-fault claims, I either go straight to third party insurance and they take care of everything (including the collection of my car and delivering hire car upon collection) – they even drop my car off if need be and collect the hire car after the repairs.

Another instance i have heard of, is to go through accident management companies. Apparently, since it’s a non fault claim, they have their own hire cars and own garage where they repair your car and charge third party insurance with all the bills (of hire car and repair of own car).

Finally is to go through your own insurance but i choose not to do this if i didn’t have hire car option in my policy.

All those options, at minimum, they give like for like car. Atleast according to my experience. Recently someone went into my uncles car (jaguar XJ) – he just went straight to local jaguar where they have their own accident management department and they took care of everything. He got Audi Q7 as replacement.

The third party insurance also offered him like for like car AND promised to send him a cheque of £100 if he went through them – he didn’t because he preferred to get his car fixed by main dealers in comparison to an unknown garage.

I am really interested in knowing what would happen when involved in an accident. Because i am new to the scheme, and i have read that sometimes, motability may conclude that the damage is very minor so they may not fix it. But surely this would affect the good condition bonus? I would want my car to be fixed, no matter how small the damage following an accident where someone went into me.

Anyways, glad to know you are mobile again! 🙂

Generally speaking, accidents and insurance are a headache – regardless if it’s your own personal car or motability. I had to do countless amount of research on this topic after a taxi driver reversed into my parked car and tried to blame me for going into him. It was my first car after just passing my test and to learn that i would have to pay £700 excess for someone else’s mistake – fair to say i was not happy. Learned a lot of things in that process. Managed to get hold of cctv footage and everything was put to bed.

You made a very good choice there Mr P! Even though we got tiguan, i will always question whether i made the right choice. The 5008 is really that good, if it came with adaptive cruise control, i would be waiting for one those instead 🙂

I sort of agree with you. Tiguan and mazda, i could easily point at thinks i didn’t particularly like. But i couldn’t find a single thing wrong with the peugeot. And there are so many tiguan’s on the road but not many peugeot which i sort of like. But given the tech and features it comes with, i wouldn’t be surprised to see many on the road.

I think if VW didn’t have any discount, i would have gone with 5008. the massage seats on it is insanely good in my opinion. I sat in a Jaguar XJ with massage seats and range rover too – they are very similar to tiguan, they blow air in the seat to massage your back. It is good but the 5008 had mechanical moving things that go up and down that releases an uncomfortable moan out of you. I was embarrassingly excited.

We hired a citroen c4 7 seater not long ago, It had similar setup where you use the screen for climate controls. It was a little awkward at first but got used to it so it wasn’t a bothersome issue for me.

The tiguan and mazda just felt like a regular car where you get in and drive off with no problems. Everything is where you expect it to be. The peugeot on the other hand, it was unique in my opinion – it felt like a car that the driver has to compromise a little on. because the dash was so high, the steering position had to be changed so the driver can see everything. But it wasn’t bad at all. i felt like i was much more upright and comfortable with that setup.

Honestly, your pictures really got me interested in the cx5 to the point that i was 100% on it! From visiting this forum before the new quarter, i did learn that cx5 was going up but just didn’t know by how much. I nearly bought one out of fear too. But decided to be patient, the plan was always to wait after new quarter. At this point i still wasn’t sure of diesel or petrol. They took away the diesel and increased the price of petrol. It still wasn’t bad still! but felt that the universe has made a choice.

But it just felt that if i have the cx5, i will miss the Peugeot but i don’t think that i will miss the cx5 if i had the Peugeot.

I did like the 5008 but the second visit to the dealers just made me fall in love with it. And this is someone who always avoided french cars due to their bad quality. Tiguan wasn’t my first choice but the car is not for me personally, it’s for my mother and she found getting into and out of tiguan a little easier so we went with that.

Just can’t wait now! will keep updating this as i get an update. Doing this for the first time so learning it as i go along.

Before test driving, i was set on Mazda cx5 sport nav+ in petrol. Tiguan wasn’t an option due to long wait times. So it was between peugeot and mazda.

Start with the mazda – Hands down, the best car to drive in my opinion. It feels so much more connected to the road than the others. Gearbox and power was fine. Had every feature and more! the head up display is amazing! Downside was the space in the second row, It was still okay but no way near as good as the other 2 cars. The middle seat felt very tiny. I wanted the diesel version but they don’t come with sunroof so i opted for petrol

Peugeot – this is only 10cm longer than the mazda but it has acres of space! the middle row seats are just fantastic! they recline and move forwards and backwards.  Mazda interior was the best but peugeot felt bit more comfortable. The drive ability was great from the 1.6 diesel engine and it was far more economical than mazda. After carrying out fuel calculations, it felt that the extra AP on peugeot would even out or be very close towards the end of the 3 year term. I went to peugeot with heavy thought of confirming the mazda but honestly, this car changed my mind. Peugeot have improved their car massively. It is quality product! Stand out feature would be the massaging seats, panoramic sunroof, 3 different car scents to choose from, full digital dash and the reversing camera. Apparently peugeot says that it is 180 degrees camera but it offers 360 degrees aerial view aswell! The only downside was no Adaptive cruise control which i would have liked. But the other features won me over!

I went home and decided to sleep on it. Both car had wait times of just over 3 months which i was happy with. I decided to place an order for the peugeot. Made an appointment over the phone for the next day and i get an email from a VW dealer that i contacted few weeks back to get in touch with me if they have any cancelled order for Tiguan SEL so i can get it quicker. They had a black tiguan SEL in 2wd auto diesel with added option of electric tailgate keyless entry. But this costs extra £660. but the dealer had £350 off offer so at the end of the day, i would have to pay £2,809.

At this point, i got confused again, So decided to cancel peugeot appointment and test drive tiguan. They had a SEL at my local dealer in indium grey. Personally i found tiguan the best looking car out of the 3. The test drive went smooth. best way to describe it, It had all the good things that i wanted from Peugeot and mazda in one car. But i still wasn’t sure of extra £660 for option that i can live without. But i found out after test drive that Tiguan SEL passed the WLTP and VW are quoting 15 weeks – just a little bit more than the other 2 cars. That pushed me into now being very interested in tiguan.

But the Adaptive LED lights and £350 off sealed the deal for us. Therefore we factory ordered a Tiguan SEL 150ps diesel 2wd a week ago. Expected date is 20/01/2019!

If anyone has any question about those 3 cars, i would be happy to help!

Very nice car indeed trev! i think this might be final nail in the coffin for me to get the cx5! Your pictures shows more than actual reviews!

Did you get to hear any news on q4 prices on this? I am looking for diesel turbo. Although might need to reconsider that because of sunroof. What sort of mpg figures you are getting early on?

                              Hello Thomas,

I just read your previous thread, the gt line premium comes with 2 interiors. One of them is full leather that costs £1400 extra. I am guessing that’s the one you saw maybe?

But by standard, it comes with half leather which is black and half cloth which is sort of gray. To give you rough idea, have a look at this interior:

                              https://kevinegancars.ie/peugeot-car/Peugeot+-3008-SUV

Also to add, since you are looking at GT Line Premium, it comes with panoramic sunroof, maybe you can use that to let some more light in 🙂

Great choice with 5008. I am looking at them too right now, specifically at GT Line premium but waiting till q4 to see what happens!

If i may ask you a question, how are the lead times for 5008 at your local peugeot?

                              Thank you

The peugeot 5008 is in back of my head due to the sheer space but the 1.5 diesel engine just seemed a bit too less of a power. But after hearing the tarraca is going to start from 22k and top spec 4wd could be around 30-35k – i just cant help but think that it may be one of the best cars on here for money when it does come about.

The launch date is october but it says that they will go on sale from december, does that mean there is a chance we may see it on motability after october but collection date being after december somepoint?

You do have a point there. It is well known that seat, vw, audi and skoda are of same group. I wished they all took their own different approach but recently it is same recycled cars in each of the company. I liked what Peugeot and citroen did with their platform. The ds7 and 5008 are of same base but they look so different to each other.

I just had a look at this. Out of seat, vw and skoda, i very much prefer the look of this one instead. I am really considering to wait till next year and see whether it comes on motability. My biggest fear is that it may not come with additional tech as standard and may have to pay extra for those like the skoda kodiaq AND also that it may not be on motability till 2nd quarter of 2019.

I don’t really understand how the AP is worked out on the kodiaq. The 7 seater SEL 1.4 petrol auto 4×4 otr price is £32,040 but the AP is £3495. Compared to Tiguan SEL with 4×4 2.0 tdi auto otr is £35,545 but the AP is only £3249. Either the tiguan is a bargain or kodiaq is over priced.

I just hope that this SEAT is not the same.

Yes you are right. I personally would have preferred to have paid extra AP for tiguan as you extra 35bhp and also AWD. But Mazda cx5 with AWD – the AP i think its just a bit more than i would have liked. I am just very busy this week but i am planning to test drive these 3 cars next week. I think i am going to wait till q4 before placing the order, just incase if something interesting pops up.

Just another question since you tested all three cars, how would you rate the sound system in each car. Also did you get to try out the lane keep/adaptive cruise control? whats your opinion on it?

Hey trev! Mind if i ask which model cx5 you ordered and why?

Space isn’t a big needed option. its just something which is nice to have. We have multiple cars in the family so we can always take another when space is required. I would say, throughout the year, there will only be 5 days tops when we wished for bigger car to be honest so it’s not that big of a deal.

I am leaning more and more towards cx5 as that looks like a great pick for a daily drive. I personally don’t want to get manual but heard that it is preferred than auto box.
