Hi. I’m new to this. I just ordered an Ariya. Ohme asked me to do a survey so I did. I quickly got an invoice for £191.20. It only stated on it an additional 15m cable. £12.88 a mtr. I told them I  require 18m after I checked my figures. 1st 15m should be free. In the end I simply asked them to send a qualified person for a survey. SSE sent an engineer he said 18m to 20m that was nearly 2 weeks ago. I got an invoice for £271.20 for additional 15mtrs today. Now its £18.06m . I’ve asked them for a detailed invoice and the SSE engineers report. Mobility Operations called me today “Jordan” he spoken to Ohme and they will now look for alternative installer. I raised the issue over the price changes in 15m of cable. they are looking into this as so many complaints are coming in as EV takes off.  Clearly this is wrong and I agree they are taking advantage of a monopoly situation as the only company allowed to do Mobility.  I informed the Nissan dealer of the issues and that i might cancel. I now know that I will not be charged for this. Mobility and Nissan are not happy.

This is the path the cable will follow.

This is the response I received from Motability, he confirmed also that they are looking into the problems as there has been a lot of complaints. Hopefully they will make a move to change to other suppliers so Ohme have to operate in a competitive market for the work.

      LETTER BACK FROM MOTABILITY

Thanks for your time this morning, I appreciate you explaining the situation in more detail over the phone.

As discussed, I have approached Ohme already who have confirmed they will seek a breakdown of the cost of the quote and will also request an alternative installer to assess and quote for the job. I have gone back to them again following our call, to ask them to explain why you have received a greater amount on your 2nd quote and for an explanation on why it is showing as an additional 15m of cabling being charged when it is suggested that only a max of 5m would be required.

As soon as I have any further information, I will update you straight away. However, if you have an any further queries you can contact me by email or by direct line on 0300 020 5010. As an FYI I am unable to answer calls on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but should have some capacity to respond to emails.

      Best regards,

This is an update on my Complaint to Ohme,

      Dear Trevor,

I hope this email finds you well.

Firstly, I would like to thank your patience while our Installation team evaluated your complaint regarding the work required at your property further with our installer. The Installation team has spoken with the engineer that carried out the site survey and have described the following route for your installation:

The cable is required to be run under the stairs, up through under the floor, run along the hot press cupboard, up to the ceiling into the roof space. The cable will then travel the length of the roof space, out to the gable wall, along the wall, and fit at your desired location.

Although you mentioned that there should only be 3-5m of additional cabling, the installer has confirmed that the route requires a total cable run of 30m, which is 15m more than the standard allowance. It also requires the assistance of a joiner to lift the floors where the cable is required to be run underneath and to ensure the floors are put back as they were met.

The breakdown of the quote is as follows:

      – Supply and installation of up to 15m additional cabling: £316.80 incVAT

      – Additional labour (joiner needed to lift flooring): £224.40 incVAT

The total comes to £541.20 incVAT. After deducting the Motability £350 contribution, the remaining amount is £191.20.

The installer has indicated that they believe this is the most feasible route to complete the installation to standard. If you do not agree with the route described, please let us know. We value your feedback and are committed to ensuring your satisfaction.

Thank you once again for your understanding and cooperation. We look forward to hearing from you soon.

      Regards,

      Keith

      My Reply.

If I did not need an extra 10m of that cable you want to charge me for or any floor boards lifting I would not need any additional costs as the Motability £350 Contribution would cover it all.

I can guarantee you do not need a joiner to lift my floor, its a simple task anyway and I put down the flooring in 2 rooms upstairs recently and repaired the creaking floor boards myself.  If a joiner did need to lift the boards from the top of the stairs to the hot press its less than 2m. Don’t you think paying a joiner £224.40 as a bit over the top.  In addition to get to the hot press it can be done from beneath the Hot press as solar people did it. This was explained to the engineer as well. He even asked if I minded if they used the same point in the cloak room.

£316.80 for up to 15m of Additional cabling. I take it the “Up To” can be seen as a safety margin that can be anywhere from 1m to 15 metres extra, Is that correct?

If only an extra 5m is required I could have expected a refund of 10m of cable and the labour you charged up front from customers. or do you just keep it all anyway?

I would like you to explain in more details and I am formally asking for a full copy of the SSE Engineers report.

      Trevor

Nothing is simple an transparent with these people. The joiner cost is just a made up number. Lifting 3 or 4 floor boards stepping back for a few minutes and screwing them down again is not £224.40.

      • This reply was modified 1 year, 7 months ago by TrevorBroome. Reason: I estimated 15m. but forgot the bit from top of stairs under floor boards to airing room. and 1 or 2m across in roof space to where hole is drilled to outer wall. so 18m to 20m as SSE engineer stated
