We originally couldn’t get a car. Our first claim took so long to win we were left with less than a year left of DLA. We put our renewal in for DLA in November. In March when we phoned for a 3rd time they said they still hadn’t looked at it. We phoned back and asked to make a formal complaint. We then got a call back that morning saying they had re-approved the claim. If you haven’t already, it may be worth giving that a try.

@RXT Have a look at the Ford Kuga, just ordered a top spec Vignale FHEV, £2695 (plus £250 for red). Build time approx: 4-6 months and it will be the new facelift model (MY23.75).

I liked the exterior styling of the Kuga but wasn’t quite sold on the interior. How did it drive? It’s been a long time since I’ve had a Ford, they were really nice to drive.

I wouldn’t spend that sort of money on any car from Motability least of all a run of the mill brand like a Peugeot and am amazed that any car with that sort of AP comes without heated seats these days. I agree a rethink is in order.

Honestly it’s ridiculous, we were going to go with the X-Trail which is a £4k AP. Not only does that not have heated seats either, you’re not even able to add it as an extra. It’s only available on the Tekna and Tekna+ models (where you get front and rear heated seats, heated steering wheel etc) and those aren’t available to motability customers. I couldn’t get Nissan on the phone anyway ?

@RXT In your posts you twice refer to ‘buying’ the car. I just wanted to make sure, as I am becoming increasingly concerned, that you are aware that the car will not be yours, Motability buy it and you are essentially renting it for 3 years and the advance payment, in your case £6800, goes to motability and you never see a penny of it again.

Hi, thanks for your concern. Sorry, I use the phrase ‘buy” in my first post but I mean agreed to lease through motability and pay the AP with the understanding the car is assigned to me ?

Almost £7k and you’re missing options and your only positive is that is red? Hmmm I think you need to have a proper think because spending so much and not getting what you desire is an expensive mistake to make.

Yeah unfortunately it seems unless you’re able to wait potentially 12 or 18 months you don’t quite get what you want. This year will be 3 years since the process of getting a disability car started and we’ve still not got a car. We’re back to 1 car again and I don’t want to buy another car again just because of the delays with this whole process.

I’m not sure if I’m more surprised by you thinking the dealer would help you jump the queue or that you’re willing to pay a whopping AP for a mediocre Peugeot. I’ll bet a quid that the car has been sold retail.

Think you misunderstood. I’ve not asked anyone to help me queue jump, the car was ordered by someone else and then cancelled. It was being shipped to the UK and was available to buy, so I bought it. After agreeing the price, going down to the dealership to sign the paperwork and waiting a month for delivery, the car has now magically disappeared just 4 days before collection. Like you say probably sold retail (you could say somebody else has technically jumped the queue).

Did you not get on with the 300GT? I’d like to have done some more test driving but there’s not masses of choice for SUVs, particularly with current stock levels :/

Sounds like you’ve been carzumped by a private buyer. Happening more and more these days, as you’ve hinted at. Motability aren’t interested, sadly!

                    That’s what I thought!

Only 1 of the 4 Nissan Dealerships I phoned bothered getting back to me. He said if you want the 7 seat acenta premium or the 5 seat N connecta you’ll be waiting a very long time. 7 to 9 months was a best case scenario, with the potential for a 2024 delivery date. I was told there were maybe 1 or 2 pre builts on the way over that I could probably grab, but then no one gets back to you. It was removed from the scheme shortly after. The xtrail was my top choice but was disappointed to find out that most of the nice equipment I wanted wasn’t available unless you buy the £2k more expensive Tekna version (which was not available on the scheme and optional extras don’t seem to be a thing).

Fortunately Mrs RXT didn’t want anything to do with the selection process (although with great power comes great responsibility) and if the car is no good I’ll be on the receiving end of it . AP for the 300 was £6k, the black one already built had extras on top of that. What did you go for in the end?

We ordered the Tuscon at the latter end of 2021 as it best fitted our needs at the time and there wasn’t a massive choice back then. It’s got ample room in the back for mrs kezo and our disabled daughter, along with all the gadgets with it been the Ultimate trim. The issue I have now is its not auto and its giving my arthritic knee/foot alot of grief. Motability has excepted an early termination but finding something on the scheme that suits is another matter ?

Ahh nice choice, that was on my shortlist but I never got to test drive one. They do look lovely.

We looked at the Hybrid 4 300 last year and I liked it but, mrs kezo found some reason it wasn’t big enough in the rear, so we her decided against it. At the time it was something like £3400 for the top spec. Anyway I hope you enjoy it and do give me a thought when your blasting up the road ?

I can really sympathise with the DWP situation. I’ve had an assessment outside of the DWP process which gave me enhanced on both elements, was given 4 points for mobility and 8 for daily living, MR changed that to 4 and 6, meaning no daily living anymore. Appeal this week was an interesting experience, I have 11 points for daily living, 10 for mobility and was advised to enter a change of circumstances to cover my current physical abilities. My advisor said that this is standard, not many will go from having PIP taken away to double enhanced in one step and when a judge advises in a cryptic way to put int he change form, it’s just a matter of time before that becomes double enhanced, especially as I now have an advisor to ensure the form makes its case the right way from day 1. Congrats on getting the car you (kind of) want in the end. Unfortunately, dealing with the DWP seems to be an exercise in dogged determination.

Sorry to hear you’re struggling with the DWP. It can be a massive battle and if you haven’t got the time or lose the willpower to fight them, they win. The first tribunal we had I realised they don’t even send a representative. In fact if it wasn’t for the CAB writing our tribunal appeals and their legal team assessing the first tribunal response, we would definitely have lost. We did lose hope a number of times which is understandable over 2 years, but the CAB were brilliant. Fingers crossed for you ?

“as we need to pass affordability in December for our mortgage and banks won’t count the DLA as income anyway.” Don’t do what I did when applying for mortgage. I entered DLA as income and payments to Motability as outgoing. Understandably, they couldn’t use DLA as income BUT they refused to remove the Motability outgoing payments. As much as I explained that it was impossible to have an outgoing payment to Motability without being eligible for DLA (or PIP now) they wouldn’t remove it.

Thanks for the heads up! I didn’t think about this, I just assumed the DWP stopped the payments but it does make sense. Our child benefit was due to stop within about a year for our oldest daughter so the bank discounted the income, but still insisted on counting her as a dependent for expenditure even though that would stop when the CB stopped. Its the same if you let a property, the income doesn’t fully count for 2 years but the mortgage payments are an expense from day 1.

Its not as far as I’m aware and can’t remember if it was on the scheme in Q1

Hi, seems you’re both right, looks like it was recently removed. I believe from this date:

Saturday 1st April – Vehicles on the Scheme – 677

                                Peugeot -15 (-4 petrol, -12 hybrid, -5 PHEV, diesel +6)

Thanks, I’m sure it will be a great car, I’ll just pretend it’s red with leather seats ?

Thanks for the replies. I compared the cla with an astra as I was looking at one of the two. I get its not a fair comparison (like comparing buying a new astra with a scheme astra) and like for like I’m sure the scheme will be a better option.

As we are looking to buy our house next July and after talking to our mortgage adviser, it wouldn’t be good taking out a car loan right now particularly as interest rates are soaring and most lenders don’t count DLA for mortgage affordability anyway (so makes sense to use it for a car even if there’s nothing we like). So buying a nearly new car is out of the question.

The other problem we have is that because it took 2 years to win our appeal for DLA, our daughter will be 16 in 18 months time. The car we would get on the scheme won’t be the car she wants and by the time we order and take delivery its likely that she will be able to start learning within a year. So seems the scheme might be out of the question to.

Thank you for the help and advice. I’ve done the numbers of a brand new petrol Astra on the scheme vs a used 2020 cla, taking into account the AP and good condition bonus and the estimated depreciation over 3 years, finance interest, MOT, service, tax and insurance. The used Mercedes works out at an extra £60 a month. This assumes the Mercedes does not need any repairs in the 3 years between 10/15k miles and 25/30k miles as it could need nothing or rebuilding!

There’s no denying the scheme is definitely cheaper and gives you peace of mind. Is there any recent estimates on wait times for cars on the scheme (such as the Astra)?
