I have just ordered a VW Golf R Line 2.0 150 DSG Diesel. GTD wasn’t showing when I went in? But that being said I have checked the online forum and it’s nearly a 2 year wait for a GTD. I presume this is why it has been taken off. Ive been advised 8 month wait and Golf builds are week 14 in 2024. possibility that they are the midlife facelift model but not confirmed. Im not fussed just want a DSG with a good mpg because of the mileage I do on a daily basis and having medical conditions, the manual I have is effecting me, regret going back to manual and Motability have been great about it.

I asked my local dealership what they could get from ‘inventory’ that met the motability specifications. 24 hours later a confirmed frozen white kuga st line x with wireless charging and spare wheel – 2 weeks delivery I collect next week ?.

Mine was a rush as I handed back; a faulty Vw Tiguan to motability and they didn’t charge a fee for this due to it being a manufacturers fault and unreasonable wait times. I also know some of the guys at the dealership more specifically one of the managers which helped I guess?

worth a try though be confident, call up and ask inventory if you know what transmission and engine and bhp it is then ask for what they have available in that and how soon they can get it then tell them your a motability customer and would like to reserve it.

also check out Ford website and they have an inventory list there I saved all the ones in different colours and extras, but that isn’t updated often and I could only get white which was my least preferred colour out of the colours I like I put white last – black and blue were off the list. But that’s only because I had white before. So it’s not really an issue and has to be better than listening to 2 hours of pinging a day from a faulty Vw! ?

Not sure, but before you decide please take a look online at the ‘travel assist currently unavailable’ issue. Had I known about this I wouldn’t have chose one and handed mine back due to the fault no way to turn the noise off (pinging 2x a minute continuously for the whole journey I spend 2 hrs a day in the car drove me insane I wanted to rip the steering wheel off and smash the car up that’s how bad it got I stopped going out in it) there is a TPI notice for it  to dealers so it’s a known issue but they aren’t telling people.

just thought you should know because I wish I had. Also it’s an issue across the VW range not just limited to the Tiguan.

              Yes, sort of!

Handed my 71 plate Tiguan back due to a known fault with the steering wheel and travel assist issue. Expected me to wait 5 months possibly more for a fix and listen to persistent pinging! It drove me insane and my son has sensory issues.

              Anyway

I got in contact with my local Ford (it helps I do know them) I managed to get a cancellation/ stock order which had already been built but is at the port awaiting a transporter. This was last week had to compromise on colour and the extras (spare wheel and wireless charging)

however within 24 hours of order they arranged for my collection for the 9th March! So not long can’t wait. (I had a Kuga before which I owned sold it and got a Tiguan on the scheme- will never have a VW again with all the tech issues and unhelpful dealership giving me a dirty car supplied with mud, stones, sweet wrappers, post it note with a phone number on and a lovely bag of peanuts in the boot!) thankfully we have no nut allergies however we do have sensitivities and the car clearly wasn’t cleaned the amount of dust in it. Coincidence I came down with sickness 2 days later?

But call round ask if they have it in stock and when can they get it, then tell them your a motability customer and would like to reserve it.

              ?

I totally understand that and I did say to motability in all honesty I just want to sort a new car for now, the claiming the refund for extras can wait.

My mum who worked in car sales is adamant I’m getting it back ( so we’ll see how that goes) I don’t have the energy to be honest to put up a fight I have enough on my plate.

I have been to Ford with all my bits today to try and extras and fits perfect like my old kuga. I can only get it in the Tiguan where the side cut outs are behind the wheel arches. With no room for anything else in the boot, I’ve tested the room from front seat to backs and I’ve said all along I’ll happily go back to a  Kuga.

Yes I understand with the hire car, something is better than nothing and better than sending me insane.

thank you for your help and advice I appreciate it

                  Thank you,

I’ve spoken to Ford and they have said 3 months for the Spec, they have a few on cancellation which they have kept and will push forward for me.

im not keen on the idea of a hybrid and the lead times are twice as long. The AP is now out of my budget also.

my partners van is manual I’ve had to use that last week and I actually miss driving manual the courtesy car I’ve got is also a manual. So I’m not that fussed although it’s a lot easier and was originally a major factor I would have to sacrifice somewhere and I guess that’s it.

I also heard that the CVT engine on the Kuga FHEV is unbearably noisy ‘possibly worse than the pinging’.

my other half isn’t happy as he loves the Tiguan, he uses it probably once a month. So doesn’t have to live with what I have the past 8 or so months!

They took BMW X1 off the scheme and I don’t like the X2 either.

Had a couple of phone calls with Motability and VW today, part is expected in July sometime, but no guaranteed date, this is too long to wait.

I’m cancelling my lease (effectively) but no charge as it isn’t my fault and placing a new order of a different vehicle, make and model.

I am able to keep a courtesy car until the new car is here, as much as I loved the car its issues mean I don’t feel safe or that I can rely on it, for me practicality overcomes looks, I’ve also made the decision to go back to a manual so I am in more control.

VW have apologised for the dirty courtesy car and have offered me a different vehicle when one comes available or I can keep this one they have said whilst there is a problem with the car they won’t take the courtesy car from me unless my car is returned/lease cancelled then motability will need to arrange a courtesy car (which will happen at some point this week/early next week). They assured me they don’t treat Motability customers differently (not how I feel) my optional extras were paid direct to the dealer and have nothing to do with Motability, so motability said, so I will be kindly asking for a word with the manager and be asking for this to be refunded from the dealership when I hand back their courtesy car as the least they can do for the stress it has caused.

I now have to pay out the AP for the new car- I will get my AP from previous car back pro-rata after collection of new car due to having a courtesy car as a temporary replacement (which is fair enough, I can’t be left without a car, I don’t care what it is so long as it doesn’t ping at me a million times).

Overall i’m pleased with how understanding motability have handled my case, and how empathetic they have been even if I did describe it as ‘ wanting to rip the steering wheel off the car’ it drove me that insane!

Fingers crossed for the speedy delivery of my new car once its ordered, one less thing for me to worry about is that noise, unreliability and random breaking attacks, its literally been torture for me and kept me up all night with worry over what I would do and wouldn’t wish the noise ive experienced on my worst enemy!

Im looking at the Kuga 1.5 Ecoboost Petrol ST-Line X ( gone against the hybrid as my friend had a fiesta who’s battery was faulty repetitively and it wouldn’t fully re-charge and was on constant less than 20% so she handed hers back after one week) its also the only vehicle on the scheme I can afford AP wise with the difference from the last one Im also in need of a bigger boot than the Tiguan and the Kuga is slightly bigger and my sons Special Needs Buggy fits in much nicer than the Tiguan, I’ve considered the Tuscon, Sportage, Qashqai and X -trail. (if anyone has any pro’s or con’s that would be great)

Ive never experienced poor customer service with Ford either, but that’s probably because I know a lot of them and they treat me like family, so its re-assuring to know if I had any issues with the new car I know I’d be in the best hands possible.

Hopefully it will all be sorted by the end of the week.

Yes , there doesn’t seem to be a permanent fix I have emailed VW to confirm if there is one? I doubt I’ll be setting foot in the car again, have no confidence in it and in all honesty don’t feel its safe.

It also had a few issues of the autonomous breaking system going off randomly when driving, did it on the way to the dealership yesterday at 50mph. So I have emailed and asked them to confirm the error codes showing.

Are you in a hire care because of waiting for a replacement order? If so what have you gone for?

Yes, I can’t stand it, the only issue is it is a known fault with no definitive remedy only temporary.

I’ve seen on a forum that people have had the replacement steering wheel and months later the issue returns, I just haven’t got the energy to deal with back and forth.

In all honesty I would rather change it to something else, I thought it would be similar to my Kuga but its not the boot struggles to fit my sons special needs buggy in without ample room for all his other luggage! never had that issue with my Kuga.

Im regretting the Tiguan 🙁 The autonomous breaking system has gone off randomly as well in situations where i’m in control and it’s thrown me forward whilst belted in the seat. I don’t know all this tech, the only thing I like is the lane assist that shows you on the wing mirrors when a car is coming up beside you. I can live without everything else.

I’ll see what Motability advise tomorrow.

                          So just had the call,

It needs a steering wheel replacement, expected wait time is 3 months could be longer they don’t know and there is no way for them to turn the noise off.

So I informed them I can’t live with it another 3 months and his reply is ‘we need that courtesy vehicle back tomorrow’ so motability have escalated me to the customer relations team and im awaiting a resolution as I just can’t deal with that another 3 months.

VW will have to wait for their car back as I have no other means of transport.

It’s unreasonable to expect someone to wait 3 months for a part.

Neither me or my son can stand the noise, he’s autistic and effected by noises its effecting my mental health, no car is worth the amount of stress this has given me.

Being as it is a manufacturer fault, which others have confirmed their resolution is only temporary as others have had the issue re-surface after a replacement steering wheel has been fitted,

I’ve been advised by Motability under no circumstances am I to hand the courtesy vehicle back until they say so.

Got to allow until 5pm tomorrow to hear from Customer Relations Team.

Thanks, everyone eagerly awaiting VW to contact me as I took it in this morning.

My courtesy car (22 plate Golf) is absolutely disgusting, theres rubbish in it (sweet wrappers in every nook!) and dirt on all the mats as well as considerable amount of dust, upon handover.

Issues I have since then are; the stitching on rear passenger seat, big pocket; has come undone, and my back windscreen wiper makes an awful dragging noise, the blade itself doesn’t look to be worn. so no idea? but I mentioned both whilst I was there.

They said they would call me later on and let me know and if I couldn’t get back today; tomorrow for the courtesy car so, they seem pretty positive of an outcome! I’ll update on the error codes found and what they seem to think the fault is.

Its definitely not user error as many in Tiguan forum have experienced the same even after sensor, camera and steering wheel refits and have also ended up handing their cars back, because they said the same they can’t live with it 🙁

I know in the Tiguan forum its a replacement steering wheel or faulty camera, but I left them the book of logs I kept of when it would go off and how often and what I did, no pattern really all to do with wiring, heated seats, heated steering wheel, when indicator was turned on, when steering wheel was turned to go around a round about.

Travel assist went off 5/6 times on the 15 minute journey there this morning and also had the autonomous breaking system activate for no reason whilst driving. Ugh it just seems like one thing after the other.

Been put in it today I contacted motability and told them I’m keeping a log, they were sympathetic and agreed we will somehow resolve the issue and I won’t be left without a vehicle.

So my log today was 16 minutes – 7 miles – it pinged 18 times! 1st ping when engine turned on- then heated seat and steering was put on.

7 minute journey it pinged 8 times! Same as above heated on

5 minute journey it pinged 7 times! No heated on at all.

                              also had this :

                              ACC: predictive control currently unavailable

                              Which I haven’t had before?

it’s averaging just over 1 ping a minute, so frustrating.

Another 19 days until it goes in.

Motability said it was a good idea to keep a log then log after it’s been in to see if there is any difference.

I’m hoping this will be the case and it will resolve however other forums have stated after a few months the problem re-appeared.

My car precious to this was a Kuga 2016 2.0TDCi 150 Manual.

I switched to auto because of my 2 hour journeys I had what I called ‘clutch knee’ and I no longer have that problem since being in an auto.

I’m in high hopes for it to be fixed as I love the car! I feel however Kuga’s are bigger which I like. But either way I just want to enjoy driving and if this pinging goes away I’ll be happy! However if it doesn’t I simply can’t live with it. What is the fuel consumption like with the Kuga. My previous Kuga did 49-51 mpg on the same run my Tiguan does 45-47 which I don’t think is too bad for a 4wd and Auto. But haven’t owned a petrol vehicle for 7 years so no idea what the efficiency is, I do 40 miles a day minimum.

I’ve got my fingers crossed VW can fix it, as I was in hopes of purchasing it at the end of the lease.

                                  Hi guys,

thank you for your help, I’ll give motability a call to inform them just been out in it again I cleaned the front sensor ( only had a full body wash Sunday) just to see and as soon as I turned the car on it pinged. On the journey home it only started pinging continuously when the heated seat was on. I presume the heated seat and steering were are connected to the same component which could be the issue. Fingers crossed it gets fixed as other than this I love the car!

I’ll definitely inform them though of the issues so they are aware. I’m keeping a daily log from now until it goes in.
