@Clair I don’t understand why you were told, you had terminated your lease early, as you were already in a lease extension! Whils’t a total of £700 (350+250+100) GCB was correct, as you didn’t quite reach a full 5yr lease, I’m confused why you were told this. @BigDave would you mind having a quick read over this topic, incase I’m missing something ?

I have to admit it has really puzzled me. But if you had the exact same scenario with your vehicle handback after 4 years 6 months, this must be the rates they are now using (I’m just glad I found somebody else who has such a similar experience to be honest!) but I do wish this information was accessible on their website.

I can only assume they used the term early termination in relation to the fact that I had not completed the full 5 years, so would not be awarded the full £550 GCB.

It was of course originally a 3 year lease, but I had phoned them near the end of year 3 to request it be run to 5 years as I liked the car so much and the advance payments on the Tiguan had gone through the roof by then.

The main thing I can take away from this is that it clearly isn’t just an error or oversight with my case (the payment description of ‘one-off refund’ didn’t help matters!) as I was fortunate enough to find and join this forum and discover at least one other person that had experienced an almost identical situation 🙂

Hi and thank you for clearing that up for me. It seems that my confusion was brought about because I was using the table indicating it was paid on a pro rata basis here: https://www.motaclarity.co.uk/news/how-much-is-the-motability-good-condition-bonus They have clearly changed the system since that table was published. It’s a shame Motability customer services weren’t as helpful at explaining where the figure came from, as you are. Many thanks again.

“To be eligible for the full bonus you must keep your Motability vehicle for the full duration of your lease. On 1 September 2019 Motability introduced a pro-rata system for people terminating their Motability lease agreement early, so even if you don’t keep your vehicle for the full duration of the lease you can still qualify for the Good Condition Bonus if you look after it.” Hi Clair, From how I read the link (bold part), is if you terminated your lease early <3 years, you would receive a pro rata on the good condition bonus. For a Full 3 year lease and upto 5yrs its not paid on a pro rata basis. At the time the GCB was £600 for a 3yr lease and £900 for a 5yr lease. Keeping your vehicle into the 4th year the additional GCB is £100, so not on a pro rata basis, as suggested in my first reply and that your payment was correct. My previous car I kept for 4yrs 6 months, like you I received £350 early, plus £250 making the 3yr GCB £600. I then received an extra £100 for extending my lease under 5yrs, making my final payment £350 (£700 in total) At the time I questioned this and seem to be given a better explanation, than they gave you ? I hope that makes a bit more sense ? @Marky36 the £100 is as outlined in my first comment and above ?

Sorry for the confusion. I was originally thinking it was paid on a pro rata basis even up to 5 years, going by the table shown in that linked page (I’ll try and attach a screenshot, but I’m not great at this stuff!).

Because the table is/was applicable to pre-Oct 2022 started leases, I (wrongly) assumed that my mid 2019 started lease would end with a gross £750 / Nett £400 (after receiving the early GCB) being paid back to me.

They have obviously explained properly to you that there is now a different system in place whereby you have a standard rate of £250 the same as the customers ending 3 year leases, and an additional £100 for extending your lease past the 3 year mark (no pro rata).

Hi. Also very confused about this and motability have not been helpful. Scheduled to pick up the next vehicle around end of march but a couple of weeks later in mid april we would have the current car for 5 years already. On Motability website it says: If you ordered your vehicle before 1 October 2022, you will receive a £350 early payment and then £250 at the end of a three-year lease, or £550 at the end of a five-year lease, if you return your vehicle in good condition. So understanding from that if it’s not full 5 years it’s £250 (not paid pro rata), but full 5 years is £300 more at £550. If that is the case we would be much better to delay the collection of the new car somehow if it indeed is ready for collection at the end of March. Cannot find anything about the extra £100 Clair received for giving the car back at 4 years and 5 months. Could anyone please point me in the direction of where i can see anything about an extra £100 being paid for 4 year leases? Thank you.

The long and short of it seems to be that once you’ve extended your lease beyond the 3 years, you will only receive the full £550 GCB if you see the lease right out to the end of the 5 years. If you end before that point anywhere in year 4, you receive £350.

The lack of information about it on their website is very annoying indeed. All I got from Motability customer service was ‘you’ve terminated early, so £350 is the correct amount for you’.

What was frustrating for me is that upon their advice to get ordered asap, as there is a global parts shortage and build queues / waiting lists etc etc, I went and ordered a new car within a month of speaking to them. The new car was delivered to the dealership last week – still 7 months to go on my lease.

At no point had anybody told me that if my new vehicle turned up before the 5 years is up, that it would be regarded as an early termination and a reduced GCB.
