Only the top spec model has ACC. The cruise control on the Plus model is rubbish. It strays 3-4mph from the speed you set making it no good for speed camera areas. It is practically useless and the one thing I miss from my previous car.

What makes it worse is that the car has ACC but Volvo disable it with software so that only the top spec car gets it. The Plus model has the radar and sensors, Volvo just disable it on a £40k car.

Bog-standard cruise control is something that should be consigned to history and especially the poor implementation on the XC40.

Despite this I still recommend the car but it is by far the worse (lack of) feature and I really did miss ACC for the first couple of months.

How about the positives about this car? I believe the exterior looks stunning. Many have stated that the drive is comfortable and great driving position.

Like anything you do get used to it (not having it) but yeah it was a shock to the system at first.

There are many positives. As you say it looks the bees knees, one of the best looking vehicles on the road and the B4 engine is fast & powerful. The auto gearbox is great and the ride is nice.

I love the blind spot warning lights that tell you not to change lanes and I love the built-in Spotify and Google Maps. Plus you get onboard internet from Volvo for 5 years so apart from phonecalls you don’t need to connect your phone for anything.

The voice activation is superb too. Press a button on the steering wheel and then say “Navigate to….” or “Stop navigation”, or “Turn passenger heated seat on” or “Spotify, play The River by Bruce Springsteen” etc and it all works flawlessly.

Funny how we all like and dislike different things. I don’t like the look of the XC40 at all. The front is bland, the side slightly awkward and the rear just ugly IMHO 😂 I can live with a car that I’m not keen on the exterior looks of (we have a Tucson at present 😂) but the interior of the XC40 is a let down as well, as the infotainment screen is an odd shape, too low and small by todays standards. Standard equipment isn’t great and the boot was too small for us. Finally, Volvo’s petrol engines are way off the pace when it comes to the balance of performance and fuel economy, especially when compared to the likes of Audi and BMW that they aspire to be on a par with. Yes it has a compliant ride, but it was off the pace in far too many areas to have been a serious contender when we changed last year. I can’t help but feel that Volvo have put all their focus on EVs in recent years and, as a result, their petrol cars have somewhat been left behind. Shame, because I had a Volvo GLT 2.5 many years ago that I really liked, other than it was black (never again – always looks dirty).

The sad thing is that the only cars that ever come on to Motability that I really like the look of are never practical for us 😩
