They don’t want the people owning cars, and i don’t think we are really in their thoughts or plans as to our needs and our dependency on cars for our mobility.

Nothing happens overnite but by 2030 i see no alternatives on offer and many priced out of driving any cars. We will own nothing and be happy.

I see a future were no one is allowed to drive and they just charge you for your journey in an autonomous vehicle and what class you travel in depends on your social standing and if they even allow you to make that journey, just like the bbc do, if your gary Lineker you get luxury top of the range, if you not known at all you’ll get a lada, but we the everyday people and not the elite will be charged the same, no matter what we get.

@Martinod I can sense the trepidation in your thread but by the time there are only EVs on the scheme having an electric car will be much much easier than you think.

If we look at 2030 as the cut off point I predict EVs will be a great deal cheaper to buy than they are now. I also predict charging will be as quick as filling up your car with petrol. I predict you won’t need to get out your car to charge it.

I also predict there will be very cheap autonomous taxis out there reducing the need, for many, to have a car of their own.

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.

I think it’s easy to look at current EV’s and think they don’t work for you as in many cases they don’t.
However, in 10 years time I think driving an EV will make sense for a huge amount more people than it does now.
Range, charging time, ease of charging, price, off street parking will all get improved or worked out.
We don’t know how all of these problems will be solved as the technology hasn’t been developed yet but I think it will.

I also don’t think that the numbers of people “priced out” of driving will be anywhere near as high as some predict. I can’t see car manufacturers wanting to lose all of these customers and they’ll know where to price their cars to get the amount of sales that they need.

I listened to a Norwegian guy on tv saying that in Norway you really have to make a case for going ICE as it doesn’t really make sense now. A lot of it came down to running cost I think. A huge percentage of their new cars are EV and this will happen in the UK at some point.

Please only new topics to be discussed, this has been discussed before. Thanks

Often topics are discussed many times over especially those pertinent at this time. I agree that in 2030 electric cars will be cheaper in real terms and charging from 10- 80% will take only a few minutes. And ranges are likely to be in excess of 500 miles.

I think too many people look at todays situation and think it will be the same when the phasing out of ICE occurs in ten years time.

                        it won’t.

there will be greater range from BEVs, there will by hydrogen powered cars vans, trucks and busses, there will also be other forms of propulsion being worked upon, plus ICE isn’t dead yet, far from it.

                        Wait and see…

It will require a massive change in infrastructure to be open to the masses in just 8 years time.  At the present time, it is not a viable option for me, no abundance of charge points, no driveway or off road parking, not enough range etc and I really can’t see things moving that fast to improve in what is a relatively short space of time.

Round here, charge points are still a novelty item.
