Thankfully my Volvo XC40 PHEV is back to somewhere near my 27 mile on a full charge range. During the last month or so I’ve been occasionally using the petrol engine as my electric range had dropped to about 14 miles on a full charge. During this time I’ve recorded returns of 12 mpg on some of the very short journeys i normally take.
We regularly have discussions about range anxiety, and it is a very real thing, but in my day to day travels electric and petrol range appear to be similarly affected at this time of year.
The only person who got all his work done by Friday was Robinson Crusoe.

My results tally with yours Brydo. Looking to the future I’m committed to plug in hybrids and very interested in the depleted battery fuel consumption on longer journeys. We get between 42 and 47mpg depending on how easy the journey is and probably average 45 to 46. Any future car has to look similar.
I was very keen on the MX-30 P-EV but initial stats suggest it’ll only do 29mpg. So that’s out..

SmoggyI’m in an older Mazda 6 estate (2011) whilst await daughters new van.
Get 35mpg from a 2.2 remapped to 210hp diesel.
January 15, 2023 at 2:38 pm #206215Our range is still quite poor averaging around 18 miles on a full charge with the heater on, on the plus side our averaging around 70 mpg so far this month.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.

I currently do alot of 350 mile journey’s so I’d avoid lugging the extra weight of a PHEV around, opting more for a FHEV or better still Nissans E-Power technology.
Sadly as @wigwam pointed out MX30 p- r- ev technology to usethe engine soley as a generator and incorporate the added weight of a PHEV battery didn’t work out this time for them.

My niece has a 2018 Outlander PHEV and is averaging around 65mpg ?
January 15, 2023 at 4:00 pm #206221Toyota RAV4 hybrid. Almost 5 years in, total average since having the car is 37-38mpg.
In the first year it was around 48mpg, but year on year this has dropped.
While it’s cold, sometimes a trip is around 22mpg.
January 15, 2023 at 4:30 pm #206224We currently have a Suzuki Vitara 1.4 automatic (well for another 6 weeks anyway)
We only do very short runs, typically 5 mile there , 5miles back home, rare we do longer , may be once a week we may do a 20 mile trip to a garden centre etc. in this cold weather round town on the short runs we are only getting 29/30mpg , on the odd little run out to the country side i get about 45-50mpg, motorway once a year down to Brean at 60mph about 50mpg.
its very clear that the short runs and the colder weather get a much lower MPG figure. i dont expect to get more when the engine is cold. once the car is warmed up you can really see the difference in MPG.
We are moving over to EV in 6 weeks which may be better for short runs (Still greatly effected by the cold i know)

I like both the QQ and XT. I’m thinking of hanging back till q2 hoping the XT Tecna/+ trim joins and the AP’s drop a little more but going test drive both this week.
I’d opt foe the E-Power rather than the E-4orce if I went ffor the XT, as the economy suffers with the addiitional electric motors weight driving the wheels and of course its 4wd. Probably in a similar respect Mazda’s MX 30 r ev with similar tech to E-power suffered when adding PHEV. The XT E-power looses roughly 10mpg compared QQ 55mpg but of course the XT is a bigger car.

Gary VI have 1.5 petrol Ateca and if I make an effort I can get about 45 – 48mpg on normal roads, drops to 42ish if motorway. Also lose about 5mpg if really cold weather.

Very similar to my sister car of the Tuscon, the Kia Sportage. Although it’s now down to 25mpg, although a good chunk of this is short 3 mile journeys.
My last car would have been achieving around 36mpg in these cold, short journeys. Long runs, even in the cold, I would achieve just under 60mpg. The ACT (active cylinder technology) of my Golf certainly improves mpg better than these pointless Mhevs.
I can’t recall which forum member is still awaiting their Golf GTE, but I’d imagine they’ll achieve extremely impressive mpg.

Horrible at the moment!
Managed 43mpg doing 50mph on cruise control up the A1 yesterday (speed restrictions) rest of the day and today round the doors and a couple of 20mile round trips lucky to get 34mpg
Usual trip to pick up/drop off my daughter (18 miles round trip) I can get 37-39mpg being extra careful, last night 34mpg 🙁
Don’t know if it’s just the cold or the cold and E10 petrol.
AP when I got the car was just over £1200, 30 months later and the new version is £2749. Not that I’d have another, the 19″ tyres are useless, about 1-2cm of snow this morning and struggled to get out of the cul-de-sac, through the estate and onto the main road, no grip at all 🙁
Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

Probably 80% A&B roads in W.Wales and a dozen or so 200+ mile DC/M’way trips (each way) over said 35 months.

I started mixing E5 with E10 in varying ratio’s since the cold weather we had, mainly because when pulling off at junctions the engine would want to die on me as if pulling off in 2nd or 3rd gear (mine’s a manual box). The car reponded better pulling away, but, the extra 1-2mpg wasn’t really woth the extra outlay.

I’m sure I read that the engine management computer alters various parameters dependant on the fuel, but to gain the extra performance of higher octane fuels you need to run a few tanks through (i.e. it takes the computer a while to adjust to different octane fuels).
Having said that, I did 3 full tanks of premium/super unleaded in a row and it didn’t seem to improve the mpg.
My ppf warning came on whilst using E10 and I did revert to E5 whilst trying to unclog it, but I can’t say whether the E10/E5 played a role in the ppf issues.
January 16, 2023 at 6:13 pm #206358I wasn’t going to respond to this thread but, in the interests of information if nothing else, here goes ?. I have the benefit of home charging for my EV and an Octopus Go tariff costing 7.5p per kwh between 00:30 and 04:30.
My last two trips have both been 63 miles each costing me 21 kwh each charge, so £1.58. I calculate this as equivalent to just over 252 mpg at a petrol charge of £1.389 per litre.
Since October the lowest mpg equivalent is 170 mpg and the highest is 357 mpg.
I have no interest in rehashing any EV arguments but if you can charge at home on a decent tariff and you travel less than around 100 miles a day an EV is absolutely unbeatable. End of.

IanHi Peter I have the same tariff as you, charge at home plus have solar panels and a home battery. Managed to put 11Kwh into the car from the sun alone today which in today’s temp gave me 40 ‘free’ miles (I know not really free because I had to buy the kit, but I can rub my belly!)
