AnonymousI need help picking a replacement car as motability has given me a technical termination as dealer can’t seem to get to the bottom of the issues with the Enyaq.
I’ve got 3 months before the hire car goes back so that’s the timeframe I’ve to work to.Main thing is it must be reliable! I know you can get problems with ANY car but some seem to have more issues than others! On my shortlist is the electric Kona, electric Scenic ( heard they might have issues) qashqai epower. Like the look of the mini countryman and the Toyota CHR but can’t really justify the cost.
If you had to choose what would you go for? Reliability and boot space for a wheelchair are important. Hire car is an electric Jeep Avenger which has been reliable and charging so much easier than the Enyaq but the boot is a tad small or that would have been a contender.

Enyaq are fantastic cars, I loved mine, but if you struggle to get into cars do bear in mind that they are relatively low compared to other o
ptions. My days of estate and sport cars are over. 7 years ago I really disliked the look of Kia Soul, though they were always a great drive, now I own one, needs must, helped by mine being an old one looking like a Smurf. I also really like the Jeep Avenger. Really we are spoilt for choice, horses for courses.Recent cars: Hyundai Kona Ultimate EV; Volkswagen Caddy Maxi wheelchair accessible; Skoda Enyaq iV SportLine; Vauxhall Mokka-E; Kia Soul EV, Hyundai Kona (again)
November 30, 2024 at 6:38 pm #294307I had a last generation Hyundai Kona electric and I absolutely loved it. I can’t remember one issue with it. It certainly never went to the dealer to get stuff sorted unless it was a rare service or an update. Can’t speak of the latest generation but I think that’s the same platform. I like it so much I went for Hyundai again (Ioniq 5)
Cheers, all the very best

November 30, 2024 at 6:49 pm #294308Yes I loved my Kona as well, it was my first EV and really sold me on them.

November 30, 2024 at 7:11 pm #294309Why are you dead set on an EV? If reliability and ease of use were my priorities I’d be avoiding them like the plague. Wait until we have to have them.
November 30, 2024 at 7:13 pm #294310Out of the pan and into the fire by the sounds @Dee49.
As you say, I suspect all manufacturers will have bad cars. Wouldn’t you want to get another Enyaq?

November 30, 2024 at 7:30 pm #294312Lots of positivity around the Scenic. The Ariya is worth a look.

Anonymous@Injector an ev doesn’t bother me. It’s a lot cheaper to run than petrol if you have a home charger. I was worried about the range but in reality it’s not been a problem. I do know where you are coming from- a lot of my friends don’t like the idea of an electric car.
@DumfriesDik I hear what you say but I’d be constantly worried of something going wrong.
@MFillingham scenic looks nice. Hadn’t considered the Ariya I’ll check that one out. ThanksNovember 30, 2024 at 8:53 pm #294315@Dee49
New models always have teething and reliability problems that are ironed out on the next facelift.
Probably time to hunt around the dealers and see which cars meet your needs.
The new style Kona does look and drive nice, i did road-test one.
But the draw of saving 90% of fuel bills with an EV over petrol is difficult to let go with todays energy prices.
You were just unlucky with a bad Enyaq. Many manufacturers have their teething problems on first issue.
Shop around.
November 30, 2024 at 10:24 pm #294316I’ve had loads of problems with my Ariya, nothing big but the little stuff mounts up. Would I have another I doubt it.

Like you I’m in a similar situation, I’m now on my second Enyaq, the 1st one was an 80 sportline which i had from August 23 till August 24, skoda couldn’t fix the car so motability terminated as mechanical failure and told me I could order again.
I decided lighting wouldn’t strike twice and manged to get an in stock 85x sportline plus which I picked up at the end if August 24, I knew the day i picked it up it wasn’t right, it was making an awful knocking noise from the rear, I booked it in but the earliest available slot was October, the dealer has had the car since and can’t fix it, so this one is getting rejected by motability too, in the next few weeks i can order another car but not sure where to turn.

Anonymous@Fadge And I thought I was unlucky! You have my sympathies. It’s very stressful when the car you rely on the most doesn’t work. I always remember what my orthopaedic surgeon said ‘ your car is your legs. Without it you wouldn’t be able to get around ‘
I think I’m swaying towards the Kona. It appears to be reliable and the boot is big enough. I’m just not that keen on the look but I’ll be in it driving it so I won’t see !!
December 1, 2024 at 9:25 pm #294364I’ve been really unlucky with Enyaqs. It’s a shame as it’s a good car when it works right. It suits our needs.
I’m currently deciding if i should stick with another EV and go for an Ioniq 5 or to get a plug-in hybrid tiguan.
I hope you have a better time if you go for the kona.
December 1, 2024 at 11:16 pm #294373Parents have the 65.4kW Kona and they have been very happy with it.

This is a bit of a foolish attitude and being dead set against without logic is cutting your nose to spite your face. I’ve been in EVs for 4 plus years now and I would never go back so much easier to drive, no noise, no vibration, no smell, no petrol stations, car magically recharges overnight so no early morning emergency petrol station stops in the cold.
FYI I had a 1999 Ford Focus 1.8TDi 2 days after delivery the battery died and dealer spent 3 hours arguing they were too busy to test it let alone replace. A week later the aircon cut in and out this continued for 6 months with them replacing clutch etc before I lost it and demanded the compressor be replaced fully.
at 15k the turbo started whistling like a police siren with numerous other faults weekly culminating in a new short engine at 70k when the shell bearings failed on piston 3. Then week before it went back the head gasket failed and the coolant tank exploded putting a dent in the bonnet.
That wasn’t electric obviously.
My dad had a 1994 Vauxhall Corsa with the 1.4 16v engine with the design flaw where the cambelt would randomly self destruct he had 3 new engines under warranty on that before Vauxhall issued a mod kit.
All cars can be bad it happens sadly. Going for ICE does not mean you will not encounter problems I have experienced way more problems with ICE cars than I have pro rata with electric.
I suspect the reason for choosing another EV is that they have driven one and like the experience and much much lower running costs (£30 a month in electricity) which also gains you access to better electricity tariffs for the house too like IOG and 7p per kwh overnight
It’s clear from your comments you’ve never been near an EV too. That’s not meant as an insult but it’s classic comments from those who have no personal experience running costs ease of use etc are way way way easier than with ICE vehicles. There’s literally one fluid to check under the bonnet on an Enyaq and that’s screenwash (yes there is coolant but thats not generally something you need to check on a new car).

December 2, 2024 at 10:34 am #294397The scenic is an unbelievable car, it’s brilliant. I researched the life out of it after the bad e3008 and there are very few faults and the few there are Renault seem to want to try and fix asap unlike their french counterparts. The two main complaints are blank info screen, it takes a few seconds to do a reset to get them working again and Renault have acknowledged it’s a problem, it may have been fixed as i ain’t seen any very recent complaints about it. Another is lumber adjusting itself. I know the problem there, when folk are using the message function and then turning it off it stays in its last position so you have to manually reset it. Then the app, most problems are to do with a certain home charger ohme I believe. Renault have acknowledged it and are working with that company in a fix.
Then you have the Kona which I had the old version, it has to be an upgrade on the old, it should be a cracker. Hyundai EV are probably the biggest EV on the forum from the 5, 6 and Kona. If reliability is a concern with any ev then the amount of Hyundai EV drivers on this forum and the lack of complaints or even grumbles says they are great cars. Mind aps have just jumped which put me of the Kona with spec I wanted.
