Been in the car today, and there is loads of water in the drivers side. The mat is wet and water marks on the carpet yuk. Rang dealer but just missed service so they are ringing me tomorrow to get it sorted. Any one else have a problem like this with a Leon ST?
Wouldn’t mind but we’ve not had much rain till this weekend.

My SEAT, an Alhambra has a drivers door that fills with rainwater that gushes out when the door is opened, I wonder if it’s the same problem… I’d assumed it was a VW Group feature and have decided to use a different manufacturer in future.
May 6, 2020 at 9:42 am #112908Thanks gothitjukie, interesting, awaiting call from dealer, but the carpet has white water marks 2 inches up, so been loads of water, me thinks. Thought I’d been smelling a musty smell for a while and thought it was the air con needing a service, bad for my asthma, been struggling with that since February.

May 6, 2020 at 10:45 am #112911I don’t know if it’s a possibility but my 58 plate VW Golf and 61 plate Seat Leon had a quirk that sometime all the windows would open for no reason. Over the 6 years I had the two cars it happened about 3 or 4 times between them.
Always happened on a very warm dry summers night and would be brought to my attention by passer-bys knocking on my door so hate to think what would have happen we had one of those massive summer downpours.
Of course if you haven’t had the knock on the door or windows not opened it will be something else and I never had it happen on my 64 plate Golf so think it was a software glitch that VW had fixed over the years.
May 6, 2020 at 11:27 am #112915Thanks ChrisK, no, no neighbours telling us the windows are open.

Michael TurnerHi, Have you got a sun roof on this car?
VW TOURAN FAMILY MODEL SUFFERED THE SAME PROBLEM, WATER GETTING INTO DRIVERS FLOOR MAT AREA, FOUND TO BE WATER GETTING THROUGH WINDSCREEN DOWN PILLAR ON DRIVERS SIDE.
MUSTY SMELL IS DUE TO AIR CONDITIONING NOT EITHER BEING SERVICED OR NOT BEING USED WAS TOLD TO OPEN WINDOWS AND RUN AIR CONDITIONING FOR A REASONABLY SHORT TIME TO CLEAR.
BE CAREFUL THAT WATER DOSE NOT AFFECT YOUR ELECTRICS, SUGGEST YOU DRY OUT WITH CLOTHES AND GET SERVICING TO DRY OUT, COULD TAKE A WEEK TO COMPLETE JOB.
hOPE YOU GET SORTED ASAP, CHEERS mICHAEL

Michael TurnerHI, WINDOWS OPENING AT RANDOM, HAVE HAD THIS HAPPEN LONG TIME AGO WITH VW, GET SERVICING TO CHECK THE ELECTRICS SETTINGS, SHOULD STOP THIS FROM HAPPENING, MICHAEL
May 6, 2020 at 1:23 pm #112925Sorry no sunroof Michael a bit of a mystery where it’s come from, still awaiting call from garage.

May 6, 2020 at 1:49 pm #112927I don’t know about the current model, but the original Leon (2000-2007/8) had a bit of a reputation for water ingress into front footwells.
The two common things to check were:
* a badly fitted pollen filter and casing (which was fitted in the plenum chamber below the windscreen);
* for blocked drainage holes in the bottoms of doors (or more accurately, the rubber seals around the doors were obstructing the holes in the metalwork).
May 6, 2020 at 5:34 pm #112931We had a Ford Focus a few years ago it leaked from day one, it kept leaking through the roof filling the boot full of water, they had several half hearted attempts, in the end the replace the jack as it had rusted up and sealed the roof rails with black mastic (very badly).
Also the air-conditioning never worked from day one, they fixed it several time, it would last a day otherwise the car was fault free over the lease.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
May 6, 2020 at 11:07 pm #112945Thanks guys, still not heard from garage!

May 7, 2020 at 9:52 am #112955VAG doesn’t have a good track record with water getting into cars, usually 1 of 3 things, blocked water channels in scuttle below windscreen, poor windscreen seal or badly made/fitted door seals, has happened to many of their cars over the years.
June 22, 2020 at 2:43 pm #115826Well, car went in today on a low loader, apparently there is a leak coming from the engine compartment where the wires for the hoist goes through, no grommet fitted! Been leaking water every time it rains, since the beginning. Now the difficulty is, as we had the first hoist taken out and the one I wanted fitted by another company, who is to blame? Anyway Motability are funding it, new carpets, underlay and whatever, will be away about a week, not having a car, but have a taxi account while it’s in if we need to go anywhere, don’t think we will use it though, but nice of Motability to set this up.
Thanks for all your advice guys.

LittledaveNever had any problem with our Alhambra. No leaks, perfectly reliable.

bfoandcOur Seat Ateca (which we got last year) had a horrendous leak on the passenger side – presumably from new – which it took us a while to notice and by then the floor was sodden. Took a while to get the car properly sorted as well. We were very unimpressed by the garage we got it from and won’t deal with them again. We are hoping to change the car – the leak was just one of the problems – and hope to get the process started once some normality (whatever that is) is restored.
June 22, 2020 at 11:06 pm #115859Hi bfoande our dealer was fantastic, not the one we got the car from as they closed down last year, took the car in to look at it, when it was discovered it was not covered under the warrant, brought the car back and explained the problem. Between them and Motability it was sorted out.

November 17, 2020 at 7:05 pm #129665Well ….. it’s back!! Car now been in the garage since 6 November for …. the same water leak that was “repaired” just over 4 months ago! If that’s not bad enough the part is on back order and I’m not sure but I think Spain is in lockdown so it could be this week, next week, sometime ??.
Leaking in the same place so replacing windscreen this time, was going to hang on and not bother ordering next month but decided can’t wait to get rid, second time it’s left on a low loader, ah well at least we can’t go anywhere ???

BinaryDad@gothitjulie, did you find the source of your problem with rainwater that gushes out when the driver’s door is opened?
We have a 66 plate SEAT Alhambra and have recently noticed a problem that sounds very similar. In our case the water appears to be not inside the door, but trapped between the upper and lower rubber seals so that it sloshes out when the door is opened. It seems to happen on the driver’s side only. We’ve noticed this in the past few weeks but, since we’ve had the car only a few months, are not sure whether this is a new problem or whether it’s always done it and we’ve just not noticed it before.
December 15, 2020 at 10:51 pm #132282My leak was the windscreen, been doing it since new anyway it’s been replaced and seems okay, fingers crossed!

No, it was just like yours though, you opened the door & the water came out onto your feet.
I’ve now got a different car & that so far doesn’t seem to leak, some bits have fallen off but being a Peugeot I’m sure they must add extra bits so that they can fall off to maintain their reputation.

SouthammanWater leaks in the main, are difficult to work out where they come from.
if the windscreen us moved when the direct glaring PU is not totally cured can cause leaks, also if the bead is not the right profile that can cause an area where it can leak
other things,
sunroof drainage pipe being blocked.
one of the rubber grommets between the engine and the cabin missed out or not fitted correctlyseam sealer not applied correctly to a joint
rubber seal not fitted correctly
the drainage holes from where the body was put through electro coat not sealed correctly afterwards causing water to wick up into the cabin
Heater or air con pipe not correctly fitted.
tgere is also an issue where some cars don’t have a drainage channel on the roof and cars with the door frame tgat goes over the body
water ingress is a science lol

CarlMy mum had a toyota ago, it leaked from day 1 in the foot well of the drivers door! It was due to the actual rigidity of the chassis… which is quite scary.
It was a private purchase and after some negotiation a replacement car was given.
