My plan for my next car is to be a plug in hybrid or a full BEV.
My question is how secure is the home wall charger to unauthorised use?
Can anyone roll up and plug in or is their a verification code on the charger.
Sorry if it sounds a dumb question. - CreatorTopic

Mark HollandYou can set your charger on a schedule however if you were unlucky to have someone plug in it’s probably the worlds slowest theft my full price electricity could be stolen at a rate of £1.05 per hour but if the thief kindly waits for the cheap rate then it will only be 35p per hour hopefully by then I will have clocked him
November 21, 2021 at 5:05 pm #169690I don’t know about all chargers but i think so. If you have a Wall Charger, you can switch it off at the isolator switch. Alternatively, you can set a charge schedule for 0% and switch this on when you want to lock the charger

IanMine has a swipe card reader but its rubbish so I don’t use it. You could just plug in to mine and it would charge at £1.15 an hr

PeterMy Pod Point Wall Charger has a lock on it to permit charging. I wouldn’t say it would be hard to defeat though. As said above, there’s the isolator switch that I might use if I ever get to go away on holiday again :-). My box is configured through the app to only charge between 00:30 and 04:30, my 5p cheap Octopus charging hours. I plug in wnenever suits but nothing happens until 00:30.
November 21, 2021 at 9:13 pm #169704That is interesting, i thought (maybe just the charger we were looking at – Wallbox Pulsar) you have to start the charging via linked app.
CCTV over our charge point it is.

Just2FishThe BP Pulse has a key lock on it, but given that the only way to get mine to work is to jump start it with the isolator that’s not relevant to me. Avoid them, the customer service is non existent, still waiting for it to be fixed 10 days after complaining.
November 22, 2021 at 8:58 am #169718Thanks guys. I’ll look into it in more detail when we find out what wall box is available or offered.
November 22, 2021 at 10:35 am #169722Ahhh BP Pulse, sets the heart racing….for all the wrong reasons.
They finally got back to us after 5 months to say they needed photos to prove we had a driveway. Wife sent the two photos of the driveway we had already sent, pointing out the large gate in the photo shows clearly that its a driveway. She also pointed out that as we had not heard from them since early June we had sourced a chargepoint from another supplier and they can shove their antiquated unit up their own socket.
Back on topic….our Viridian unit has a key to lock it off, but as others have said, it’d be a pretty bold thief who drove into your driveway & plugged their car in for the several hours it would take to get a meaningful charge.
In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.
