I added a wheelchair to my order last minute in the hope that it’d be a little smaller than my current chair and offset the slightly smaller boot the Tiguan has over the XC60 and, for MY uses, it’s pretty much completely useless.

IF you fit the pads to the back and seat, you can barely fold the chair – the top of the back won’t fold down at all, and if you attach the velcro at the bottom of the back to the seat it becomes completely unfoldable. The REMOVABLE foot rests require so much force to attach and remove that my wife can’t do it and I think I’m going to snap something when doing it.

To use this chair day to day will mean every time I get out of the car I have to spend 3-4 minutes reassembling it, praying the footrests won’t snap, and the reverse is also true – the old chair, which as it turns out is pretty much the same size so no benefit there (although I know i was just “hoping”) will be going back into action.

The only advantage to the new chair over the old is that, on those rare occasions when my wife is pushing and we’re going down a hill (going downhill is usually when I LEAST need help) she now has a couple brake levers to slow the chair.

Needless to say, the chair is already back in the corner of the kitchen and when I have the time/energy it’ll be going back into the box. I can’t even say if it’s comfortable or not as I’ve never actually sat in the thing…

For others thinking about this chair, IF you won’t be folding it up much, or you’ll be pushed by someone else most of the time, and IF you don’t have a current chair or there’s something wrong with it, then it’s probably worth considering. Personally I think I just blew £100 but on the plus side, when it goes back to the dealer with the car at the end of the lease, I definitely won’t get any grief about damage as it’ll be effectively brand new and unused.

It does come with a pretty comprehensive service kit. Lot of spare bolts and clips etc. Not sure if that’s a good thing as they provided it all, or a bad thing because does it mean they expect stuff to break/fall off every 5 minutes?

      Rant over…

I looked at one of those years ago (probably an older version) and it was an instant no, after much arse testing I opted for a Karma Flex and never found a better one yet that’s not custom made, really robust but only just over 10kgs and all fittings easy to use/clip on/off etc plus it is very customisable with the ability to adjust the seat back in about 5 positions and the position of the rear wheels can go forwards/backwards as well as up and down, I went for pneumatic tyres with some “Goo” in to give a little more compliance and still easy to roll.

        Got it for £400.

Now got Karma Ergo Lite 2. Self propel. Wife says it is comfortable and it  also folds well. It is also incredibly lightweight. Very pleased.
