Hi all,
As some of you may know, i ‘won’ a place in this years London marathon. I took up running a little over a year ago, the full story of how it came about can be read on my charity page –
https://uk.virginmoneygiving.com/TrevHunt
I don’t normally raise money for charity, 1st time for as long as i can remember – but this is a tough challenge and if a few quid can be raised for Mind to help raise awareness, and help people suffering from this terrible illness, then that has to be a good thing. I suffer from mental health problems myself, as do other members of my family, unfortunately i lost my grandad and brother to it. So it is something i have a very strong connection to.
If there is anything you can give, no matter how little, it is very much appreciated, and the link will stay active until marathon day – Sunday 28th April so donations can be made at any point up to then.
I believe there will be a tracking page and/or app available nearer the time, so if you wish you can see how I progress through the marathon on the day. I don’t collect my race number till the day before, so will update this thread with the info when i have it for anyone interested.
More about the charity Mind can be found here – https://www.mind.org.uk/about-us/
Thank you

Yesterday managed to run my furthest yet, 20 miles! and don’t need to run any further in training. Pace was good, managed negative splits for the last 5 miles – running faster than the first 15.
3 weeks till my first half marathon, so will be doing some speed work to prepare for that – then it will 6 weeks to London, 3 weeks building the millage, 3 weeks tapering down, resting the body so it’s fresh for race day.
Well that’s the plan…..
Thanks all again for your support – now nearly at 200% of target for my fundraising which just goes to show what fantastically generous people I have the pleasure of supporting me. YOU are awesome.

Make melonade!February 23, 2019 at 3:56 pm #71187I respectfully disagree Winston, peoples generosity has been quite overwhelming. I’ve never collected for charity before so didn’t know what to expect. I’m just so really, really, pleased that Team Trev is going to make a difference to a few people life’s.
When i finished my run yesterday I did my stretches, had a shower, change of clothes, and went for a 3 mile walk. It sounds mad but it’s a way i found that releases the tension in the muscles – so whilst tired today, my legs feel fresh.
When i finish the London marathon, I have a 20 min walk to the tube, which will take me to the train station, where it’s a 10 min walk to the hotel and back to pick up my bags, then train to Didcot where i drive back home…. so i’m effectively training just as much for that than the marathon before it LOL
March 27, 2019 at 9:19 pm #73502Haven’t posted an update for while, to be fair i’ve been crapping myself!
Had an injury a week after my long run, pain in my left thigh, rested a week and nothing improved so booked to see an osteo who said my muscles were tight and had a suspected quad sprain. So had exercises to do, no improvement after a week, went back – this time for a deep tissue massage… damn they hurt….. few days later and again no improvement… back again as suspect a stress fracture…. and if that were the case it would be game over…. fortunately tests revealed it was not. Then a few days later pain just went!
So after almost 3 weeks of not running i went for a 5k walk to test the thigh, and perfectly fine, next day 10k run, again fine. Today i happened to see a sports physio on nhs…. not as long wait as i thought, and she diagnosed that i had weak glutes and hip abductors on my left which is causing my left knee to turn inwards when i run… this is what he problems has been, rubbing of the knee cap send pain radiating up my thigh.
Anyhow, no apparent damage to the knee, the 3 weeks rest helped that, and now have strengthening exercises to do – meant to be once daily, but will do 3 times daily. Thankfully can carry on running in the meantime, but not speed work, just slow runs which is fine.
I did have a marathon target time of sub 4hr, but that’s now out the window, doing all i can to ensure i can run the distance whatever the time.
Marathon training is tough, make no mistake, and it’s made me question my ability countless times. I used to run for fun, to help my mental health, but i wasn’t expecting this at all – a challenge of body and mind.
But now with little over 4 weeks to go, and whilst not in the physical shape i would like, i’m fit to run and doing all to be the best i can… this is one life experience I will never forget.

April 17, 2019 at 2:06 pm #74965I’m afraid to say my injury hadn’t gone away, training has been hugely effected in that I’ve not been able to run much at all in the last couple of months, very far from ideal. I went to OxSport to see a consultant this week, xrays and ultrasound were done, and the result is i’m still allowed to run, as long as i take it very easy and wear the appropriate knee supports. Also if the pain gets too much, to pull out. So whilst i won’t achieve the target time i desired, I’m going to press on, get this marathon completed and bring home the medal. Race is a week Sunday, you can tell its near as the BBC are showing the trailer. Thank you all who have sponsored and are supporting me, i’m going to bring it home for you and for MIND.
April 17, 2019 at 10:07 pm #74984Sorry to hear that Trev you have put a lot of time and effort into your running and its a real pity that you have had this problem. You must listen to your body Trev, you don`t want ongoing health problems as a result.

Anything i post over three lines long please assume it is an article lol.April 17, 2019 at 10:15 pm #74985Cheers Brydo,
Probably won’t get a chance to run it again, so as Winston would say, I’m giving it the beans! lol
Wednesday before the marathon i have a pre-op, Friday after the marathon, my hernia repair – so i’ll be out for 4-6 weeks after that, so can rest then lol
April 17, 2019 at 10:27 pm #74986Trev,
I’m sorry to hear that you’re falling apart! Some people will do anything for a blue badge eh? ??
I’m only playing obviously!
You’ve done so much already, given so much of your time and energy for a great cause
So just do what you can, and if that means sitting on your arse on your couch with a big box of jaffa cakes watching it on tv then so be it!
So please like Brydo says, listen to your body and don’t do anything silly
You’ve done more than enough already ma man

April 27, 2019 at 7:40 pm #75680Cheers guys, getting to the finish is the goal….. as gotta get back to Oxfordshire afterwards! Hopefully i’ll get to enjoy it and run it in a reasonable sub 4hrs 30mins too.
Not collected all the sponsorship money yet, but looks like we’ll surpass £600 which i’m over the moon with, original target was £125, then £250, so very thankful in the generosity of people and the way it will help people through MIND.
At the running show there were flyers for the Moscow marathon…. that sounds interesting……though seriously no more marathons for me….. not this year anyhow…. i go in to hospital for a hernia repair on Friday! Managed to get it pushed back so i could still run lol
Thanks again, and apologies if the medal selfie doesn’t get posted till Monday.
