I’m undecided which I prefer. Looks-wise the Volvo but tech-wise and when it comes to fuel efficiency I prefer the Kia.
Has anyone any helpful viewpoints? Thanks.

Sportage or the recently facelifted Tucson!
October 4, 2024 at 7:15 pm #290170Picked up a Sportage GTLS HEV back in June and although it’s not long the Sportage has greatly impressed me. The ride comfort and tech are a big improvement on my old Tarraco FR Sport. The HEV MPG is a revelation, I’m currently averaging 51 MPG, a figure I thought I’d never see again since handing my diesel Vauxhall Insignia tourer!!
Test drove the Volvo which was okay, the ride was a little harder and you would not get anywhere near the tech without paying a fortune for the extra packs. Plus the boot on the Sportage was much bigger.
We both liked the shape of the Sportage over the other vehicles we looked at, but looks are subjective, I know. Good luck with you search.
October 4, 2024 at 7:35 pm #290172“ Kia Sportage prices now start at £1699 (up from £999), while the popular 248 bhp ‘GT Line’ Plug-in Hybrid is up from £1849 to £3399 this quarter”
“ petrol-powered XC40 ‘Plus Dark’ is now £1000 lower at £1499. A ‘Black Edition’ trim has also been added, priced at £1999.”
We are only looking at automatics so I have discounted the Kia as I cannot justify an additional £2k AP. The Volvo XC40 Plus is on top of my reduced shortlist thanks to the q4 increases and removal of certain cars.
One of the other options is the Nissan Qashqai.
“This quarter Nissan Qashqai models are available to order from £749, down from £999 Advance Payment. Qashqai E-Power Hybrid models start from £1749. Nissan X-Trail models are also better value at £2999 (was £3499), or it’s £3999 if you want a seven-seat version.“

Don’t just look at AP’s, the cost to run over three years is also an important factor. With that said Nissan QQ E-Power, will work out cheaper over the three years, even though you have paid more upfront, compared to the XC40.
October 4, 2024 at 8:20 pm #290180Good point @Kezo. The Nissan Quashqai E-Power is on the shortlist. The Volvo’s MPG is definitely on the low side. I was most disappointed to see the Honda HRV drop off the list. It was £1999 in q3 and gives 60MPG. Same with the Toyota Corolla. Am also looking at a Toyota CHR but it might be too cramped in the rear.
Comfort is also a factor hence I need to start planning test drives asap before I can order next month.
October 4, 2024 at 8:35 pm #290184Well I’ve gone and done it…I’ve cancelled the GT Line Sportage PHEV I ordered before the price increased to £3399 and placed a new order for the Volvo XC40 B4 Plus.
Both cars are nice and yes the Sportage is more modern, has better tech and returns a significantly better MPG but the looks of the Volvo won me over. I’ve always thought they made some of the best looking cars on the road. Oh and it comes with mats included lol.
October 4, 2024 at 9:07 pm #290190Had an XC40 for over 4 years now and done 70,000 miles. I get 42-45mpg on a mix of motorway/A-roads and 35mpg with a mix of town and A-road driving. Never had any problems with it but the audio system interface is pretty dire (I don’t have apple carplay though). If I want to listen to an an artist at the back end of the alphabet, I have to scroll though pages and pages! I can’t just jump to those beginning with X for example.
Was waiting to see what the latest motability price list looked like as we need to make a decision soon (on a 5 year lease) an ddid have the Sportage PHEV, Enyaq and XC40 on the shortlist. I was also worried though that the Sportage mpg was quite poor when running mostly on petrol as it was AWD. But it’s been removed now and I think it will be another Volvo that we get. It has all the toys we need although I think electric passenger seat adjustment has been dropped on these models which would have been a nice to have.

Hi Paul-I think the Sportage 4wd is still available. It’s only the GT S-Line whic has been removed (which I’m glad I ordered last quarter)

October 6, 2024 at 6:31 pm #290317Went for a test drive in a XC40 B4 Plus MY24 and it was superb. It had the 360 camera which I think I need which is now an optional extra in the MY25 car. Planning a test drive of the new Qashqai next week but the Volvo’s bar is set high and I can imagine it will be very popular at the current AP this quarter.
October 6, 2024 at 11:03 pm #290355Hi, we have just ordered the XC40 Black Edition – £1999 ap but with the £750 new car payment it’s only cost us £1250! Which is amazing value considering the AP’s of other Premium Auto SUV’s on the scheme. It will be our first Volvo as we’ve had BMW’s in the past but are very much looking forward to it. Estimated delivery 3-6 months.
October 7, 2024 at 2:42 pm #290385Hi Adam90, Did you add any other optional extras or did you take it as it? I called my local dealer in the midlands regarding this car and he advised delivery is 2-4 weeks… is there a specific reason yours is taking 3-6months? I am also interested in this vehicle but dont want to end up with a model in 2 weeks if e.g. your dealer has advised an improved model or facelift if what you have ordered?
Thanks
October 7, 2024 at 3:45 pm #290391Hi Zakar5, no we didn’t add any optional extras and just took it as it is. I did ask my dealer if there were any in stock but he replied “everyone asks the same question and currently it’s a factory order only, if it comes sooner we will let you know.”
I’m now wondering if maybe I should ring around other dealerships to ask the question.October 7, 2024 at 4:48 pm #290409@zakar5 I was told yesterday that it would be a 3-4 month lead time. It will be a custom order as we will be adding the 360 camera (which is very good).
