Hi took my new kia out for run to seaside with friends ,A14 speeded up to get by a miss daisy driveing eraticly, then saw police van side road looked at my speedo 74 mph,yes 74 mph well they say i was 80 mph , not true but what can you do exept be more carefull, they sent me ticket , thats life 3 points £100.

Well there maybe kezo ,ive filled out the fine form post tomorrow ,i remember looking at my speedo 74 MPH .
but van says 80 mph ,i hear the equipment often not calibrated, on speed vans , its to there advantage to say 80mph. I read online 70 to 75 no action
taken, never mind wont let it worry me ,thats life , will update should any be interested.
Detectors have to have a calibrated every 12 months, the recommendation for issuing tickets is 10%+2mph (so 79 in a 70).
Have they sent you a photo? it should show a copy of the callibration certificate.
Your cars speedometer must never show less than the actual speed, and must never show more than 110% of actual speed + 6.25mph

It’s very likely that they saw you well before you saw them, and checked your speedo. Is it possible you did reach 80mph at some point whilst overtaking?

Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally I get confused and often say the wrong thing.
I think you must have watched a different ‘Driving Miss Daisy’ to me, if you had to do 80 to get past them. Sounds more like ‘Days of Thunder’.
Ahh well thankyou , i was doing 74 to get well away from miss daisy ,not 80 , but thing is i got ticket ,so will deal with it.
Didnt have to do, didnt do ,80. Was at 74 mph , thats what speedo said ,but hey not looking for argument think what you want., i will pay ticket as its drawn out procedure to argue ,police always right arent they.
@mickyarmy This where a sat nav with radar warning comes in really handy. You get a warning when near a speed camera. However mobile units are not always detected. As in your case. If you have a dash cam fitted, you can replay the video and check the speed. Because of GPS positioning. If it’s contradictory to what the police say, it could be used in eveidence.

my late brother was doing 35 in a 30 ago outside Lampeter Well there was a copper hiding in the bus stop. So he stopped him came up to the car his words were “bloody hell Benji should have known it was you” they were in the Paras together. So they had a good chat as they hadn’t seen each other since my brothers accident. He let him off with a friendly warning lol. Was my brothers lucky day

The problem with these van, is they can use mini Gatso, radar or lasar, of which lasar can reach upto a mile away.
I did a speed awareness course a few months ago onle, with Doncaster council (if I remember right). It was the cheapest in the country from the list costing £63.50. It was boring but, the course was shorter than going to one of the venues and it saved me the points!

Yes ,well one time when younger we where in car no tax etc ,stopped on hard shoulder take pee, silly really ,but copper pulled up ,we explained going back to aldershot then northern ireland, he said ,get in sod off i aint seenya . Yes Kezo suppose they do. , but i was 74mph, when saw van sais s*** looked at speedo 74 mph.
I don’t contest the speed you were driving mate. As @joss said if you have a dashcam, it maybe worth taking it further.
Thanks kezo thought about dashcam but not got ,if had yes i should take further, i known other people in this situation that did contest it , it was shown police had not calibrated serviced equipment .for some time . No worrys i pay ,have explained situation but prob fall on deaf ears.

Kezo yes ive had bit to do with 4 RTR scots tank regt ,have been 2 rtr cyclops ajax huntsman sqns ,always been sabre sqn , ,i did farnborough airshow once ,scorpian tank in herculese plane tactical landing shot out back of herc with blasts going off round us, great fun practised for month with 30 squadron raf , and in cambridge had rsm from 4 rtr stayed at my mum dads guest house ,great bloke he was ,ive served in many cointrys ,old retired now ,ex para ex tankie lol.

@mickyarmy My late friend Peter Payne was in NI with 4RTR, met his lovely wife there!, small world!! I remember it well, the course was online and the woman taking it, went roud to everybody asking where they were from. Initially she thought I was from Stoke area due to my accent, I said I’m in S Wales, to which she replied, I think thats the furthes’t away we have had on our course, what made you book here. My reply was simply because you were the cheapes’t out of all of them and that I found out about them through a forum!
