I have been on the scheme since 2009, firstly with my late wife and after her passing on my war pension mobility. I am eternally grateful to the scheme for allowing us the stress free motoring. However as my situation has changed, I will be leaving scheme later this year. I am now on 3 year medical licence and decided whilst i can still drive, a vw camper is the way ahead for me. The clinching part for me was VW offering 5 year warranty and servicing and Mots and 124k milage limit. Always strive for your dreams and make the most of every day. As none of us knows what will happen tomorrow. Safe journeys to one and all.

Won’t bore you with medical history, but the fact is that at any point my health could turn, making it impossible to travel abroad.
That’s why last year we cashed in some shares and emptied savings account (even though there’s things needing attention with our house) and went on my dream trip last year – Vegas (renewed wedding vows), good chunk of Route 66, Luxury train trip to Grand Canyon, worked our way down to Phoenix via Sedona and flew to Orlando to meet up with kids and visit the themeparks.

I’m sure I’ve told you this before but you were the first person to register with the forum.
We have shared much knowledge over caravanning to the forum and as a VW van driver for the last 10 years, welcome to the club. (Even if yours is a Ford)
I suppose the important question is Diesel or Hybrid? I had a multivan hybrid for a while (loan) and it felt like a spaceship compared to the old diesel.
Vanlife is great, you will have a wonderful adventure, of that I’ve no doubt.
@HoneyMonster What a heart warming post. None of us know what is around the corner (which is probably just as well) and it is so important to make the most of every minute. I wish you many happy years of adventures.
Ah mine is based on the new vw Multivan not the VW Transitporter :). And yes it is the new Hybrid with 4Motion so me and wee dog will travel about. Order books opened on 24th and i placed order on the 25th. In this colour as well

Will just be carrying a portaloo. I am having towbar fitted, so for longer trips away can tow my little Eriba with its full toilet and shower.

Test drive in new VW multivan based camper. if the multivan ever comes on scheme I think it would be a winner. It is back to the comfort and space of old MPVs like Alhambra. Had test driven ordinary multivan, but now one of the first of new california hybrids was in, so jumped at chance to drive same as ordered. Also only about a foot and a bit longer than current X Trail
