      Hi All,

My wife is wanting an item of clothing from a US company that does not ship to the UK.  Has anyone come across a reliable company that acts as an intermediary for this i.e. provides a US address the clothing company can post to and the parcel is then forwarded on to our UK address.  A quick Google search came up with myUS.com but the reviews were lukewarm at best. A couple of alternatives were also highlighted but I wondered whether first hand experiences from you guys might be a better option.

      Cheers

This is an interesting one @PR

Has your wife asked the company directly if it would consider a one off shipping to the UK? Or if they coul;d sign post you to some company that could help.

It seems a preety common thing when trying to buy items from the USA. No Idea why though.

        “MyUS”

        Have you tried https://www.myus.com/

If it’s a small company she is buying from, it could be they don’t want the hassle of handling import / export paperwork. You could contact the company and offer to arrange shipping yourself by using UPS to collect and deliver to you.

I’ve just spoken to an “expert” lol.

One of my sons is a director of an online clothing company with UK offices and warehousing, as well as third party warehousing and offices world wide. He has implemented and supervised overseas operations for a number of years including large volume sales to the US.

He told me that unfortunately ‘smaller’ companies that do not have import/export departments have made a clear ‘business’ decision that the cost/time and sheer expertise involved is not cost effective. Large volume group shipping rates are essential to keeping an items online cost down to a sellable price tag if you’re selling and shipping for export. A requested shipping address outside of the US would be automatically excluded at their online checkout, and only a US mailing address would allow the order to process to completion.

He mentioned that the only option would be to speak to their “contact dept” directly and ask them to allow an order to be held at the warehouse for self arranged collection by a company such as “Parcel Hero”. There would then be PH’s shipping charge plus 12% duty and 20% UK VAT to add to the garment price.

I know it’s not what you wanted to hear, but online companies do not like to deviate from their ‘automated norms’.

Thanks for all your replies Guys, particularly POPS who has taken the trouble to consult his son.  My wife has said she very much appreciates your advice but has decided the effort involved is not worth our time.  Guess I’ll just have to fly out to Florida for a short break to buy it for her directly

It’s what I usually do for my shooting stuff!

Obviously spending about £4K for the holiday tends to negate any bargains I can get but a lot of the stuff just isn’t shipped to the UK or EU.  Most US dealers and online businesses won’t ship anything to the the UK for fear of being prosecuted under ITAR (International Traffic in Arms Regulation) even though the items are not prohibited under it, they just won’t take the risk.

The EU is getting as bad, before Brexit I could get bullets (just the bullet not a loaded round of ammunition) about 35% cheaper from Luxembourg or Germany and have them shipped here in about 2-4 days.

Since Brexit and with the massive confusion over documentation you simply can’t get anything shipped now.  I sat and worked ot that I could fly to the Czech Republic and buy 50Kg of lead bullets cheaper than I can buy them off a UK seller/manufacturer!.

Unfortunately the UK is a tiny market for US sellers, it’s been said that the the entire UK annual shooting sales are only equal to one mid size Texas town!, no wonder they can’t be bothered with us!.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!
