Second Vehicle Insurance with Direct Line

We are looking to purchase a second car and I wonder if the Direct Line (which I think are now Motability insurer) provide any discount? Using their online tool to obtain the quote didn’t offer any. Two questions, please:

      1. Has anyone insured their second vehicle with Motability insurer and received a discount?

      2. Are Direct Line any better than others? My personal customer experience with Aviva, which I understand is about to purchase Direct Line, is not a great success, to say in a most polite way, but reading people’s reviews none has nowadays.

Since having a scheme cars, I have continued to run my own private vehicle and to be honest never considered insuring with schem inurers. That said I’m not a fan of DL since having home insurance with them many years ago. FWIW, I have Esures 5 star cover for both home and car currently.

Given you have built no NCB up outside the scheme, your best option would be to find an insurer or broker, who will mirror your claims history from the scheme. This will ensure your not starting from scratch and depending on insurance company they could award 3 or 5 yrs NCB, which helps. After that first year you will have an extra NCB and can move to any insurance company.

It would be different if you were ditching the Enyak for a private car, but your not in this case.

Not sure how it works but surely  Motability insure the vehicle and the recipients and or other drivers are simply named  drivers, not a policyholder.

Hence the reason you don’t build up NCD on a Motability vehicle. Motability are the policyholder. You can’t get multi car insurance discounts for vehicles when your not a policyholder.

                Just my thinking

This is not correct. You definitely build up NCD with a Motability car. If you look on your Motability account there’s even an online option to request confirmation of your NCD.
