Had the Seat just over 2 weeks now, 1.5TSI petrol manual.

Good points, drives very nicely, fairly flat in Eco mode but that’s to be expected.  So far averaged about 35mpg on mainly short/medium trips (161 miles driven so far) but that should increase.  Electric boot opening is handy but foot operation is a non-starter as when parked at home the back end is over a kerb so stops it working.

Not so good points, cruise control is permanently linked to adaptive cruise control, it keeps braking no matter where I set the distance option to, only other option is speed limiter which isn’t what I need.  Limited read outs for consumption, only current, with the Yeti I could choose current or average.  Only 1 trip counter, no display of total mileage unless you dig it out, same with overall MPG only shows at end of driving when you switch off the ignition.

Sound system is average and def. a lot quieter that my previous 2 Yeti’s and the Kuga, it’s not the setting for Aux inputs either, it’s just not loud.

No rear tray tables, could have used those last week!.  No adjustable level boot floor, both of these standard on the Tiguan.

No doubt I’ll get used to it as time goes by and maybe some of it is down to not getting the Tiguan I wanted but overall it feels like a drab poor cousin using dated technology.

In fairness I may just be in a bad mood! Found out during a diabetic foot assessment last week I still have atrial fibrillation which apparently the hospital sent me home with 6-7 weeks ago!.  Also ound out during an ultrasound that I have a +2cm “complex mass” on my left kidney and can’t get a CT scan for almost 2 weeks at a hospital 20 miles away which is a PITA to park at, I’m only 5mins from University Hospital Durham which is twice the size!.  I also have shoulder damage and PTSD from the crash, doc reckons 1yr to get it sorted!.

Please excuse spelling/typos. Apart from being a clot it turns out I had one on my cerebellum that's now causing various problems!

On my Golf, to get the overall mileage you need to turn off the acc using the button on the steering wheel. The speed limit is then replaced with an overall mileage figure. I’m guessing the Ateca will be similar?

With acc it’s obviously affected by the car in front. When you’ve got cruise on it keeps you at a constant speed but more often than not you’ll find that the car in front won’t be using cruise so their speed will constantly change. This means you’ll regularly be slowing down and speeding up to keep to the set distance.

When I got my golf, I thought the menu systems were quite complicated as it’s very customisable. I’d like to think you’ll be able to access other types of consumption, average, since refuel, long term etc but just need to figure out the buttons. I’d be surprised if that info wasn’t available. I’ve had my golf for 3 years and i still can’t whizz through all the menus to find what I want.

The Excellence lux is as dull as ditchwater compared to the FR derivatives, hope you soon get your medical issues sorted.

The ACC is on an old fashioned stalk, it’s a common complaint apparently, using VW’s last years tech.

I understand the benefits of ACC I use it every tip to the USA and find it great, the Seat however seems to be braking a lot more harshly than other systems I’ve used that just slow down “nicely”.

No doubt I’ll get used to it eventually, thanks for the input 🙂

Hope all goes well with your health

And hopefully you’ll get better acclimatised with your Ateca

The digital dash is supposed to be really good with information or so I have been led to believe

Hope your medical conditions improve. I am sure that you won’t find your car as dull as ditchwater and that you will get to enjoy it a lot more as you get used to it.

It always takes a good few weeks to get used to a new car hopefully you’ll get used to the differences between Vw and seat.
The seat looks like a tidy enough package and I’m sure it will be a good reliable car, maybe give everything a bit more time to run in, Then everything should feels better including the slightly sharp brakes.

It’s always been the case since Vw took control of seat and Skoda that they get hand me down tech and a slightly cheaper interior,  the best and most modern going first to Audi then Vw.

That way they can have a bigger market share and have less waste.

@Phaedra, doesn’t sound like you’re loving it at the moment but this can sometimes be the case whilst getting used to a new car. I know I definitely struggle some times with differences such as read-outs as you mention. More often than not though, after a while, I can really get to like the differences.
The Ateca was a possible for me and I have read many good reviews. I hope you change your mind on it.
Whenever I get a new car, I spend time sitting in it, on the drive, playing with the controls. The worst thing ever is trying to familiarise yourself with a new car whilst driving. And yes…….my family do look out of the windows obviously thinking I’m nuts!

Best wishes for your health Phaedra. And chin up. Sounds like you’re having a really tough time at the moment.

Edit: I’ve just noticed an ad at the top of the page. It’s for parkour gear!

Come on ad bots, know you’re demographic! ??

? I will be remembered for nothing but had great fun doing it ?

                      Thanks for the replies 🙂

Assuming the doc gives me the all clear to drive this morning I have a day out with a 114 mile round trip planned for Wednesday that I’d like to do.  So that should give me a better feel for it 🙂

It’s the biggest negative of the Ateca, interior quality is below Audi and VW standard, even Skoda is a step up.

The main advantage of the Seat is that it’s so much sharper than all the other SUV’s, especially if your an enthusiastic driver.

I agree mark and so do the motoring press but not many people buy an SUV to do track days or hill climbs.
Mostly it’s just A to B Reliability comfort and space and safety.
Handling would be way down on my list.
Now if it was a hot hatch or sports car.

It looks to me like Seat are now bottom of the pile in the VAG group.

Yes, but it’s a very nice pile, to be at the bottom of ? no pun intended

We picked our Ateca 1.5tsi FR a couple of weeks back and have had a few issues ourselves. The back interior reading light just doesn’t work and is getting fixed along with an electric window switch that didn’t work either as and when the parts arrive! We don’t have the digital dash but still there are lots of options to check mpg. Overall… Trip… Also since last fuel fill! You just need to scroll on the right scroll on the steering wheel and this will unlock a lot of options in each category. We have passed the 1000 mile mark and are hitting 39mpg driving mostly in normal mode. I am loving the full led clever lights and it drives and handles brilliantly. And I agree that the FR just looks so much nicer without the black plastics around the bottom. 6/10 so far but I can only see my love for it improving. Also the android auto is a bit hit n miss but overall its OK but the SEAT sat nav is outdated. My road (built in early 2017) is not even on the database..waiting for SEAT to decide whether to give us the updated version FOC as a goodwill gesture.. Lol really??

The Audi’s on the scheme never interested me, the APs are ridiculous, and I’m not a badge snob, All VAG stuff identical under the MQB platform, so, best value lies elsewhere.

Alot of your issues arnt actual issues, you just need to get used to the digital cockpit and how it works, I got the seat leon with digital cockpit which is exactly the same and the mpg you can change between 3 modes, instant, since start and average, to show your mileage just flick the cruise control to off and it will show the mileage in its place, best bet is to when you for some time just sit in the car and have a play with the digital cockpit settings
