I have rejected the idea of going electric and last month ordered a VW Passat estate in diesel with the claimed average mpg of 50 mpg l see little reason in giving myself all the hassle of an electric car and also most of the vehicles on Motability at the moment seem to be SUVs l require a car with low height seats and a large boot if the Hybrid GTE would have been available l may well have gone for that. Not enough choice on Motability at this present time

You were lucky to order when you did, I can’t find the Passat in the latest price list. I drove a Passat into the ground, had it around 8 years after buying it used, fantastic car. Only ever replaced tires and 1 catalytic converter.

Yes it has been removed from the list l think they are bringing out a new model later in the year. If that enters Motability l dread to think of the AP

Much as we have had SUVs for some years now, I think it’s a great shame that so many regular height cars are disappearing from our roads. If we have to move away from SUVs (due to my wife struggling with the transfer from a wheelchair) then we would get an estate (probably a BMW 5 Series Touring). I’d get petrol though. Our current BMW X1 2.0i petrol delivers 10% better MPG than our previous 2.0 TDi Tiguan, so factor in the massive price premium for diesel these days and it’s costing us much less to run, not that we chose it on that basis as we expected the opposite.

My elderly mother-in-law has recently stopped driving at 86 years of age. Her 1998 Passat 1.8i 20v Estate lasted her until the end of her driving career and still drove well at 25 years old!

I would have ordered a petrol Passat but the engine on offer the 1.5 tsi in car of that size would make the car underpowered in my opinion l did have the Skoda Superb with a 2.0 tsi 22o hp petrol engine the power from that car was tremendous and it wasn’t too bad on fuel either
