With all the stuff going on with the Ionic 5 I am now looking at the Scenic as a fall back. Especially since the prices went down today.
I saw one at the Motability show along with an Ionic 5 and a Skoda Enyaq. Chose the Ionic 5 as the Renault looked poor quality in comparison.
What are they like to live with? Did it look poor because it had been a well used and badly looked after show car? Are they nicer in real life?

I’m interested in this also. Just had the e3008 back to the workshop this morning and had a look at the scenic and this is nice… then realised I was sitting in an austarl lol. Got in the scenic and was a bit hmmm compared. I do think the ap for the iconic seems good. But do I want another french EV 🫣
October 1, 2024 at 11:16 am #289732When I sat in an Austral I though it was nice as well. Expected the Scenic to be at least the same quality, but it doesn’t feel like it is.

Hard to say as I wasnt there to see what you consider to be poor and you say Did it look poor because it had been a well used and badly looked after show car?
Perhaps expand or simply watch some of the many reviews on aYoutube
Personally think it looks great but heard that it has an added 30 extra stone compared to the lovely to drive Megan E Tec and that weight has impacted on the driving experience, Plenty of showrooms about to pop in and see for yourself and maybe you could ask to test drive it
October 1, 2024 at 12:13 pm #289733Looks really nice on the review videos especially top of the range. Also won the car of the year 2024
October 1, 2024 at 12:19 pm #289747A few reviews I read said the ride wasn’t great particularly the steering and the brakes. The brakes in particular.
Very spongy at first touch then very sharp. I think I read on here someone complaining of the same thing about a Renault?
October 1, 2024 at 12:28 pm #289751I watched all the reviews and it all sounded great. High quality materials, well put together, good to drive, deserving of car of the year.
The one I sat in was the iconic so it should have been good. The plastics all seemed scratchy and poor quality, the Skoda and the Ionic looked better quality and better put together. Absolutely gutted at how awful it was when I sat in it. The reality compared to the reviews was a stark contrast.
Just wondered whether I had too high expectations of a £45k car or if other people have experienced the same feeling.
I do agree on looks, the Alpine version especially looks good from the outside.
October 1, 2024 at 12:48 pm #289757I am picking up a techno that I ordered, on Friday. I felt the interior quality was better than the Cupra Born although the car wasn’t as nice to drive. Overall I felt it pretty decent but the price swung it for me and the range, plus the Renault dealer was offering a £250 cashback.
October 1, 2024 at 2:26 pm #289779Would be interested in hearing how you get on with it Joe. The price is rather good.
October 2, 2024 at 9:36 am #289901I took a couple out for test drives and weren’t to bad, road noise was more than all the other cars and trim less quality. I went with the Ionic 5 and got it within 2 weeks picked it up last weekend so i wouldn’t be put off if i was you.
October 2, 2024 at 10:39 am #289919I test drove an ioniq 5 for 2 hours before going for the scenic. It was a lovely car to drive and comfortable. What swung it in the scenic’s favour for me was that with the £250 cashback the AP worked out over £1k less for the scenic. Plus the scenic had a longer range. Although I really liked the ioniq and the cupra born, I didn’t feel the difference was enough to justify the extra £1k or so for the AP and felt I would be perfectly happy to live with the Scenic and have the extra money.
If the AP had been roughly the same then I would have gone for the Born. I wasn’ particularily keen on the looks of the Ioniq.
October 2, 2024 at 10:51 am #289924That’s fair enough especially with the discounts they offered at the end of last month knocking another £500 ap off the alpine model i was tempted but I couldn’t get the miles out of the scenic only 3.4 m/kw whereas the ionic I could get 4.1m/kw and getting more than that since getting it so I’m close to 400 miles per charge but was more ap plus 18min fast change is really good. I needed the wider boot for 2 wheel chairs as well rather than the deep boot of the Scenic I did like the google integration but connect apple car play i have most of the same stuff. I didn’t try the Born it was to small only other cars was the Enyaq and mustang but the Skoda dealership wasn’t interested and mustang was lower range.
October 2, 2024 at 12:09 pm #289938If the ioniq has a 84kw battery and you are getting 4.1 m/kw, wouldn’t that be a 344 mile range?
October 2, 2024 at 12:40 pm #289948They all have a stated battery so the ionic 5 is 84kwh but only 80kwh usable the Scenic is 92kwh with 87 kwh useable. On my test drive in the Ionic I got 4.1m/kw which would be 328miles and in the Scenic i got 3.4m/kw which is 295.8 miles. But since having the ionic my avg is 4.8 after nearly 200miles which is 384 miles but on some journeys usually a town driving it easily goes over an avg of 5.0 which is the 400mile mark which isn’t unheard of on the owners forums, I couldn’t find many people able to get more out of the scenic i think best i saw was 3.8m/kw which would give 330mile range but would be interesting to see how you get on, software updates can make a difference like it did with the skodas
October 7, 2024 at 9:56 pm #290439I picked the scenic Techno up on Friday. Is a comfortable car and I’m getting 3.6-3.7 m/kw so far. Although it feels a little souless compared to the Seat Leon FR I previously had, it is a nice car to drive and I’m grateful for fo having it.
October 8, 2024 at 9:30 am #290468Ordered the Renault Scenic techno 2 weeks ago, expected build date November and delivery December.Main needs were electric tailgate, front and rear sensors and heated front seats and steering wheel, which are all on the standard Techno model. Not worried about the range because only do about 100 miles per week most weeks (90% town driving). The thing is when your paying just over 6 quid for a full charge (@7 p the actual miles you get per kw/h doesn’t make a lot of difference when your paying pennies compared to a fossil fuel car.
October 30, 2024 at 8:22 pm #292610So far I’ve been getting 3.9-4.1 k/pm at town speeds, 3.7-3.8 at 65 in the day and 3.5 at night althought this dropped to 3.1 to 3.2 more recently.
I can’t say I’ve been massivly impressed with the car so far. Its ok but the Ioniq was more comfortable. I tend to get a bit of a neck ache when driving the car but its not too bad and the seat cushion and back is comfortable enough. I’m having issues at the moment using smart charge with the ohme app. Apparently this is a common problem with the scenic. Several times I got up in the night to see the car hadn’t started charging. One time was for a long journey so I had to charge the car in the morning at the higher rate and leave later.
Was a bit hairy driving home as well. I thought I had plenty enough charge to get home and then the percentage started going down 1% per mile. It got to 10% and then didn’t drop anymore so I was fine.
The car is ok to drive but the ioniq and born are better. Personally now the price of the scenic has increased, especially for the Alpine, I would probably go for the Ioniq
October 30, 2024 at 9:38 pm #292611I think the price actually doubled tis Q, was £495 now £995 for the Techno. Have watched a lot of reviews on the new Scenic.. the reviews mention the brakes a lot, same issue as the Megane e-tech i believe..may just have to live with that sharp feedback. the ride seems to be on the stiff side from reviews. The base Techno spec seems pretty decent and even has BS detection and a very handy profile button to turn off the pings and pongs. A test drive would be in order to see if the brakes issue and seating position (some reviews mention cluster being partially blocked by steering wheel) is to your satisfaction.

Im driving the ioniq 5 very carefully and dead on the speed limit and getting 3.1 miles per kwh, dont see how its possible to get 4.8 around town
October 30, 2024 at 10:39 pm #292615After 700 miles in my ionic 5 I average 4.7 have you got it in auto mode? I’ve seen it at 5.2 more often it’s possible you don’t have something set right the eco mode seems worse than normal with brake mode 3 can drive it without using the brakes unless stopping or to get it even higher put it on auto mode then it will stop itself in traffic you just have to press a button for it to go again as the traffic moves, I sit in a hour of traffic per day. I’m waiting for it to drop with the cold weather but yet to need the heating on. Hope that helps Markah2007

By auto mode you mean ipedal ?
I usually drive it on regen level 2 around town and on motorway level zero as thats the most efficient, on motorway on level zero i get much higher miles per kwh, just town im getting 3.1

I use auto mode on the Phev and it helps and even more so, when using nav. Hold right paddle for few seconds till you see auto.
October 31, 2024 at 12:11 am #292621No not ipedal I haven’t been able to get over 3.5 with that yet I feel it would be better on faster roads. It’s like the adaptive cruise control but at low speeds the one that does stop start traffic without having to use the pedals and automatically sets the “cruise control” to the speed limits. In that mode it automatically adjusts the regen and accelerator for you so you just steer and press the button when it says in traffic, been a game changer on the commute.
October 31, 2024 at 12:35 am #292622Absolutely absurd figures for the Ioniq 5.
I guess some will try and eek out the economy for bragging rights.
I drive mine how I drove my ICE car, accelerate hard, heating and ventilation on.
You can do all the calculations you want about battery size and work out what range you will get, the car just laughs at you. The minute you turn it on, the car trashes your estimates and futility.
October 31, 2024 at 3:53 am #292623Who’s bragging? just saying what I get real life figures tried and tested but then I’m not the only one getting these figures

Good figures Chris I am assuming the majority of your 700 miles has been local and around town, you appear to adapted to EV driving quickly. With our PHEV in the better weather local and around town with the heating off we have been seeing just over 4 mile a kWh, this drops down to about 3.4/3.5 with the heating on, in the colder weather around 2.9/3.
Expect a drop in the cold weather as your batteries will be up to 25% less efficient, on fast runs dual carriageways and motorway drag squares with speed so expect the faster you go the less the range.
Unfortunately I have suffered a brain injury and occasionally say the wrong thing.
