Refused early termination

Hi all,  I finally decided on a Škoda Elroq for my next vehicle on Motability.

I have 8 weeks to go to my natural end of lease on current car.

The Škoda dealership has the exact vehicle I want in their delivered stock but can’t hold it for 8 weeks, so my new vehicle has to be a 12 week factory order.

I have been experiencing severe worsening problems getting in and out of my present Niro car, so want out of it as soon as possible. Some days I avoid going out atall because of problems.

I phoned Motability and explained I could be in the new vehicle within a week, rather than put up with another 12 weeks of struggling in my Niro.

      They point blank refused.

Anyone else come across this problem?

      Regards, wonky

I would be tempted to ring back and hope to speak with a different advisor who may be a bit more empathetic.

The worst they can say is ‘no’ again!

You’ve put up with your car this long , you would also lose your good car retuned payment and any hope of a grant.

I have had new factory ordered cars arrive before the existing lease has expired and Motability have always insisted that we cannot take delivery until the day the existing lease has ended. As @BigDave suggests, there’s no harm in asking again, but my hunch is that if they allow you to change early, even by a month, they will class it as an early termination and you will lose any entitlement to a Good Condition Bonus. Good luck though.

Not motability related but before I retired I had a company car, the cars were delivered to an address and on a date of your choice. On one occasion the dealer rang me a couple of weeks before my renewal date to make the arrangements and told me my renewal date fell on a Saturday and they did not deliver at weekends, I told him okay I’ll have it delivered on the Friday then, to which I was told my renewal date is not until the day after so it could not be delivered on the Friday.

                @wonky

If it helps, I had a Renault Zoe which I loved, lease ends December the 1st. I now need a bigger and easier boot space for various bits of mobility equipment. I phoned motability and was advised that I could change for a fee of £250. I said that I’ll have to struggle on  with  my existing car and she suddenly dropped it to £50.

ive just ordered an Elroq as it meets my needs and the car I wanted was already built and sitting at the exit port. I’ve been advised it should be here around the end of next month.

i would phone back as you often get different responses with different advisors. I would phone back and explain that you are really struggling with the Niro but not to mention a new car that you’ve found. They said to me that they diddnt want me struggling to use my existing car and would like to help. I was upset at having to change early and did lose my GCB but it was just one of those things…..quality of life etc.

As @Weekaiser suggests, you may lose a lot of money. No GCB and no welcome handshake. Plus it can cost you £250 to break out of the contract. You will get back a proportion of your original deposit, which with 8 weeks remaining might buy you a pint.

If you can manage, you would be much better off financially just sticking with what you have and rolling the punches.

The contract is for 36 months, even 34 months is a breach of contract.

                    If allowed it would be

Early termination charge of £250 and loss of good condition bonus of £250.

Perhaps even , if required, a restriction with regards to access future grants.
