Really considering returning my car

I’m in a bit of a quandary about returning my 11 month old Ariya, I really love the car, how it drives, how it looks but I’m really getting tired of all the electric glitch’s , to the point that I don’t trust it anymore.

It’s been in the workshop six times so far, the last time they had it for three weeks, erratic indicators, and I’ve only had it back two weeks and this morning the indicator problem is back.

like I said I’m in a bit of a quandary. I spent a lot of money with the APP and paint and I’ll probably lose a chunk of it.

I can understand your thinking.  Look at it this way, you’re paying for a product that has broken done six times in less than a year. You wouldn’t accept it if it was a £1k tv let alone a £50k car.

You’d receive around a 3rd (at time of writing ) of your AP but sadly not on the paint.

Motability is there to keep us mobile, something you’re not able to do in your own car just now.

Send it back if its not fit for purpose and you dont trust it anymore, getting in a car and wondering whats going to go wrong with it cannot be an enjoyable experience.

Worst case it will cost you £250 admin fee but you should get a pro rata AP refund and then its your choice what to do next regarding your next car.

          Good luck

You will lose AP divided by 36 tines 11

Paint if an optional extra, yes, you will l8se that money.

Sorry to hear about the issues you are having, I’m notca fannif Nissan due to its poor reliability issues, but looks like you have had problems not anywhere nea4 if your making.

Talk to motability about ut and yout apprehension it’s going to leave you stranded

Speak with Motability, telling them the fault has reappeared and you have lost faith in the car and no long trust it. Motability are understanding in situations like this and will allow you to terminate your contract and look for another vehicle.

As other have said, you will loose out on any optional extra’s you paid for and will be refunded your AP on a pro rata basis.

As a side note, options, whether that be paint or other factory fitted options aren’t necessarialy the best option imo.

Would like to think that Motability have some kind of obligation towards a customer who’s car has spent that much time back in the dealership. You are paying for something that is obviously unfit for purpose and the onus should be on Motability to allow you to change.

I personally would never pay for cosmetic upgrades on a Motability car as you are only paying for something that Motability ultimately benefit from when they sell the car on

Cheers guys, I’ll give MB a call after Xmas. It will be a waste of time phoning before as all you can get out of me at the moment is a croak.

I’ve never paid for paint/ options on any other car but this car I planned to keep for five years. Just shows how plans can fail ?

Oh no, reading this as mums Ariya gets ready for pick up end of the month.

A few people have said you’d get part your AP back which in most cases is correct BUT motability will return the full AP if you raise a complaint about issues that keep coming back. For example we had a Peugeot 3008 before our q3 and the info screen that controlled the AC/nav wouldn’t turn on. Peugeot tried 4 times to repair it and failed so motability tried a 5th time their self by getting the car picked up and sent to the same Peugeot (honestly waste of time) then deemed it that it wasn’t gonna get repaired and they returned my full £2000 ap even tho I had 9 months left of the car

I wouldn’t worry too much about your Ariya, mine was ordered in June 2022 making it one of the first ones in the country and most of the issues I’ve had have been seen by other owners and have been resolved by software updates at the factory so fingers ?yours will be fine. The only issue I’ve had that I haven’t seen mentioned on Ariya forums is the erratic indicator issue.

I’ll definitely mention about the returning indicator issue, so thank you for that ?

If the paint is classed as an optional extra, then write a letter to the dealership HQ and ask for it back as the vehicle is faulty, consumer rights.

I did this with a faulty Tiguan I had, MB gave me AP pro rata’d I then sought optional extras back from dealership as no contract was formed or signed in regard to these being paid for separately.

My complaint went to VW Compliance team in Germany and they got back within 48 hours stating I could have the money back so long as I signed a non fault agreement and would not pursue them in future for the issues I had as I was seeking damages too. I agreed as it was over £1200 I was seeking back.

So that’s a consideration but do it after they have had the car back and you have ordered something else with MB as they may contact MB, MB will say the same to you as to the dealership its nothing to do with them.

But it is possible, prepare for a fight though. Ive ordered a new car and had minimal optional extras because of this.

I know that feeling well, i had a PUG 3008 and used to come out of the house to all the windows fully down or the boot wide open. Once came out of the supermarket and the hazards were on and the wipers going full speed on a sunny day. Used to dread coming out of the house on a morning or walking out of shops, we even cancelled a holiday because i did not want to park it up for 2 weeks at the airport in case it got nicked, not the sort of feelings you should be having for a beautiful car like that. Motability fully understood i had, had enough after 9 months and swapped it over without charge, like you i lost the money i paid for the special paint i had but got the deposit back pro rata and used that for a tiguan which was flawless for 3 years. Dont put up with anymore stress just get rid, its not worth it trust me.

Stuart, one of the things I’ve had is the tailgate being open when I’ve come back to it, luckily it’s only happened three times and the cars as been parked in a fairly safe place but when I asked for it to be checked I was told it can’t open on its own, you must have pressed the button accidentally.?

Yes mate i had that, all the accusations that it was me pressing the key until i explaind i had the keys in a faraday pouch and they were in an empty draw at the time. The car was plagued with electrical faults but like you i was an early adoptor of the model in the UK so im convinced it was just early teething problems as loads of people have since had 3008 pugs and loved them.

I have experience with something similar to the and MB were not much help. I had an Audi A3 and the screens would never work. Without going into too much detail they would freeze, display error messages and also tell me to contact the dealership as faults had been detected. I contacted Audi and they did nothing. They said they were waiting on a software update and they would contact me. Nearly a year later (after finding a workaround) the car went in for a service and I was told it would be updated. The update wasn’t done so the car had to go back in as they said they’d forgotten to do it. After the update, the problem happened less but still happened fairly regularly.
I contacted MB to tell them and they offered me and early return which ended up being about 3 months prior to the end of my lease. They charged me £50 and didn’t give me the £250 bonus.
I did ask if they could waive this due to me having a faulty car for three years which was documented with Audi but they said no. Being charged to end my car only a few months early after having a faulty car for nearly three years felt unfair. Yes, I could have chased Audi more and contacted MB earlier but my health wasn’t great and I had found a workaround from YouTube.

My advice would be don’t give up with either the dealer or MB. I’ve had bad experiences with Audi when I was a private customer and they were much more willing to help.

Definitely looking to change the Ariya now. The indicators failed again this morning and the  alarm keeps going off, I managed to get it booked in for the 3rd of January.

Unfortunately I had issues again with the indicators over the Xmas holiday and I was stopped by the police on the 23 December for the erratic indicator, fortunately they were quite good about it after I had explained the situation. Anyway to cut a long story short it was booked in again on the 3rd January but by then the bloody things were working ok again and of course they couldn’t find anything wrong.

I’ve contacted Motability about it and they have been very helpful and are allowing me to cancel my lease early but theirs not a lot I can find even on the new Q1 list with the same spec as the Ariya that suits my needs.

I quite like the ZR-V apart from the boot, which is too small.

If you fel out of love with it after 30 months, you only have 3 months left before you get excited about ordering a new car and a further (hopefully) 3 months before you collect your new car. Its not the end of the world lol.

I’ve just returned from looking at the Kia EV6 but it was the gt line s but even if the GT lineS was on the scheme I don’t think it would be suitable. I plan to look at Hyundai IONIQ 5 tomorrow.

nothing,  it’s been perfect. We absolutely love it. The issue is my landlord who had given verbal permission for a home charger and then changed their mind!! Although the winter range is terrible (not just a megane thing I know it’s all EVs)  …..only 140 miles I got a few weeks ago when -1°c which means I need to public charge regularly as I do a 170 mile round trip a few times a month to see my elderly parents… been using a granny charger for 3 months now and I just don’t trust it and public charging is proving very very expensive!! Double the cost per mile in comparison to a frugile ICE car.  But with a home charger it would have been perfect.

We only ordered it on the 13th of August and was told 31st Jan 24 for delivery. Then they called a few days later saying that a vehicle was available to pick up on the 1st September. We stupidly accepted it knowing the charger would take a few weeks for the paperwork! We live and learn
