I picked up my new Ford Capri on Wednesday I have to say I love the car. I know there is a lot of hate with the naming of it but It obviously shares nothing with the old capri. I had 2 capris back in the 80s and yes they were iconic but they always handled terribly in the wet and lets face it they were a Cortina in drag lol.
Anyway love the car hate OHME and their subcontractors PRO EV. I informed them over a month before picking up the car. and with so many cancelled appointments for no apparent reason I am hoping they will turn up tomorrow a week after getting my car!

Ok well an update my lovely capri has been in the ford workshop for a month now almost the same time as I drove it in the beginning. the problem with the main screen cutting out exactly every 2 minutes. the Ford engineers don’t know what the problem is! I now have a case with the Motability team to decide what I want to do. I love the capri but I have lost all faith in Ford. Back to the drawing board to pick a car. so sad 🙁
July 16, 2025 at 9:30 am #309689Sorry to hear that!
What you thinking of next?
July 16, 2025 at 9:48 am #309691I can only try to imagine the disappointment – a positive tho – at least it is right at the beginning – better now than a month or so in.
Totally understand why you have lost faith in ford – I hope you sort out a solution soon.July 16, 2025 at 10:15 am #309692I just don’t know at the moment, I have been waited for the capri because it suited me with looks and boot size. I will have to study the Motability cars for suitability. I have a Skoda Enyak estate as a courtesy car I am pretty impressed with it so that may be an option.
July 16, 2025 at 10:45 am #309700Yeh Enyak, Ioniq 5 or even anoher Capri/Explorer if it was a one off?
July 16, 2025 at 12:15 pm #309711That’s really dissapointing. However, looking at the various forums it seems that faults while rare, take ages to rectify, possibly because the platform that the car is built on (VW) is unfamiliar to the local Ford mechanics
We’ve had our Capri now for about three weeks and apart from one day when the screen when blank we;ve had zero issues (the fix was extremely simple – press & hold the button next to the volume slider).
It’s a great car to drive and attracts a lot of attention (but it is yellow!)
July 18, 2025 at 11:12 am #309804Shame about this. I got to look over a Capri finally recently and quite liked it (still disagree with the name but I’ve moved on, lol). Definitely going on my shortlist for a test drive, along with the explorer, come reorder time around crimbo (provided the ap remains in the area it currently is).

Had this sticker made for the name snobs!July 18, 2025 at 12:19 pm #309808At least the Renault is more akin to the old model unlike the Capri.
I’m bathled why manufacturers resurect old names and not come up with something more fitting to the modern world!
July 18, 2025 at 2:31 pm #309812I’m waiting to go and see the R4 when our local dealer gets one in, high hopes for that one!
Couldn’t give a toss about names tbh, call it the Ford Practical for all I care, as long as it lives up to its name!

Sure you didn’t mean that you’re showerled?
I do agree though. I am not entirely against reviving old names, but it has to be done “in honour” of the footsteps it follows. The new Mustang, as an example, is actually a good example. The Mustang Dark Horse looks stunning, and very reminiscent of the original Mustang – as opposed to the Mach E (or other, older Mustangs, like Mk2, Fox bodies etc). The Capri should’ve been a smallish 2+2 seater sport rig, with maybe 220hp – akin to an EV version of the BRZ/86 maybe. If it had to be EV. The Mach E is just called Mach E as far as i’m concerned. The Kuga.. Well, the Cougar isn’t as iconic i guess, i still liked it, but at least they didn’t copy the spelling, so one can pretend that they didn’t try to rip off the name.
That all said: the Ford ID5 is a lovely car. We very much enjoyed the test drive, the reason we are going with the Explorer is mainly that it doesn’t fit properly in our parking bay (and the Explorer drives sportier/feels considerably stouter than the Capri despite having the same motor/battery – measurably, in fact). It looks good, i personally like the interior and don’t find the tech too intrusive or distracting, it’s well kitted – just an all around good choice, so well done – hope you’ll enjoy it.
PS: Kezo, baffled. 😛
edit: as a sidenote, our salesman was very quick to point out the only two “capri-esque” additions to the Capri – the bottom spoke on the steering wheel, and the rear side window – which he explained with a sigh, lol.
