      Hi!

Just looking for some advice really, we are totally new to the scheme and have been narrowing down our selection but our local Peugeot and Ford dealers I’ve spoken to say we have to order the car to be built which is 3ish months, is that normal or a covid thing? I found some dealers with stock further away but wasn’t sure if its because we are looking at the new Galaxy and the brochure says its a 2021? The Peugeot I get because its the new 5008 that just came out but I think the Galaxy will suit us better!

I really thought this would be easier/quicker but then I got lost in the whole ‘Ooooo look at every car’    black hole .?

Welcome! Both great cars I personally prefer the 5008, especially with the facelift, 3 months sounds about right, only other thing you can do is call other dealers until you find one in stock, keep in mind we’re about to go into the new quarter in January first which means prices will change could go up or down, don’t think the 5008 would change much but who knows

          Thanks @TheSUVGuy.

Yes I love the 5008 but I just don’t think its going to be big enough and we’ve had a Galaxy before (family of basically 5 Adults and our youngest is Autistic so we mainly go camping/sandy beaches and far too much stuff!) The other thing that put me off was the fact that I’d have to upgrade to the Allure just to get roof rails when I don’t need any of the other bits that come with it, I do love the iCockpit though!

The Galaxy will give us everything we need for a smaller AP (vs Diesel Allure) We are still waiting for the Award letter to come through from DLA so I think I’ll keep on looking a bit further away for stock which leads to me to my second question haha! I keep seeing people say they have travelled really far away to pick up their car but how does that work if you need to take the car in? Do you have to take it back there?

You can get the car serviced at any dealer for that make of car, For me there some cars that there no local dealers so they off my list as taking them for a service is then a huge issue or even a minor problem you can just pop in for it if local (covid permitting). I remember getting my 1st car on the scheme quite a few years ago now and i had a car at the time so was not a major problem waiting a few weaks to get the model, color i wanted etc.

but yeah you can ring around and see if there any availability further afield.

Ah ok, I’ve got to drive near our biggest town tomorrow and there’s a massive Ford dealership there so I might just pop in and have a chat with them, I’d like to get it ordered before the new price list comes out in case the AP goes up but it would be sods law to do it and then find one down the road! Really not to bothered about colour and there’s only one manual so hoping it wont be too hard.

most dealers will if its approaching a new quarter will agree to redo the order if the ap goes down. get it in writing though.

although not many have gone down recently.

as rox says you can order from any dealer to get the deal that suits and then get it serviced locally.

i was all prepped to go all the way to scunthorpe as for 24 hrs they were doing a deal on bmws for 0 ap, so almost went for an i3 but the morning i was going they pulled the offer as they hit  their target. a couple of contributors to the forum did manage to get a deal, jammy sods lol.

3 months is pretty standard. Very few manufacturers keep tons of speculative stock these days and if you want optional extras then they are almost always factory orders. Dealers can pull in cars from other dealerships, but will probably be less willing to do that for a Motability customer than a private customer, but worth asking. You do not have to have the car serviced at the supplying dealer and you return the car to the dealer that you get your next car from, even if it’s a different brand, so well worth travelling for a discount (we got our car from 70 miles away but saved £500 by doing so). We are 20 miles from a main dealer, but they collect and return the car from/to our house (almost all do), so distance from dealership shouldn’t be an issue either.

I’ve had my S-Max diesel 180 Powershift 2.5 years now, its been  brilliant, much better than the C4 Spacetourer I had previously, the 2.0 engine will make a big difference over the 1.5 in the 5008, I know, as it does for me. Drives much better and is much more comfortable. I recently spoke to my wife about our changeover and she said she wanted to keep the S-Max.

Fuel economy for me is about 5mpg worse though, I’ve averaged 41mpg over 40,000 miles. The 150hp engine should give another 1-2mpg. The Citroen averaged 48mpg, but, fully laden, it didn’t have the pep of the Ford.

Good luck in finding a car

In life, it's not who you know that's important, it's how your wife found out.

Brilliant Thanks everyone, went to look at the Galaxy today and it looks good but was told to expect up to 6 months delivery time so currently revising what we are looking at, may have to go for a smaller car with a roof box, the main problem is that our only holidays are camping ones so wanted to get something bigger for that but the 5008 boot was too small and we really need to get something quicker so looking at reviews for things like the Tiguan, totally open to ideas for bigger booted cars!

                        Welcome to the forum, KC.

As for large cars, have you checked out the VW Sharan, Skoda Kodiaq or Toyota RAV4? Or even the estate variants of the Skoda Octavia and Superb?

Hi! Yes looked at the Sharan today but a bit concerned as it only comes with a 1.4 Petrol engine, I’m literally just on the Skoda website at the moment! I actually dreamed about car dealerships last night ?

                            Hi guys,

if your looking for a sharan I would be quick, there is a rumour that the sharan will not be manufactured for much longer and a vw salesman even said the same.

i ordered a sharan back in august and apparently have a unconfirmed build week 3, so this might give you an idea of wait times for this model.

Hope your search goes well for you, good luck.

Haha, KC. Glad to see you’re looking at all the options.

Yes, the 1.4 TSI in the Sharan would concern me as well but it’s turbocharged so should have enough torque available. I hope you’re reading and watching lots of different car reviews too.

This wouldn’t surprise me, newbie1892. Sales have been falling for a while now and the model hasn’t been updated much since its launch in 2013.
