BradWhere do you guys who have private reg plates go? I know the dvla site but their plates are nothing like what I’m searching for, giving me different options to the criteria I’m wanting. Just wondering where others get their plates for. Also can you get the last 3 random letters on a uk reg done for free? I’ve seen a lot of “mol” and “rem” short for molly/ remy.
let me know if anyone has knowledge on plates. Thanks - CreatorTopic

Hi Brad,
DVLA is the best site because their prices include the registration fee, but you’re right that they stick to fairly nondescript numbers. They auction off the good ones to get a better price. You can look to other companies to get more exclusive plates but that’s an expensive route, as on top of the price you have to pay £80 to put it to the car. As far as choosing your number, this isn’t possible. The first 2 letters denote the region of the UK where the car is registered, the numbers denote the year of registration (the next one is 70), and the last 3 letters are totally random. Some dealers allow you to choose from their allocated plates, some don’t, but you’ll only be able to choose from a small random amount anyway. To choose the configuration on a plate you always have to pay. If you wanted to adjust the letters on a 70 plate new car it’s normally £399, assuming you don’t want anything that actually makes a word, as they will be pricier or reserved for auction. ?

MossfinnI’ve used a company called regtransfers.co.uk. Reliable and helpful, they have a search facility that allows you to input any name or collection of Letters / numbers and they will show you all plates with any connection.

FuHi,
like Mossfinn I used regtransfers and it was very easy and I’ve always had the dealer place the plate on any new vehicle for collection however Audi had said they don’t do it but when I ordered the gran coupe from bmw they said it was no problem as all you do is pay the £80 fee ?

AzzyI used nation numbers for mine but I’d recommend just checking Dvla auction site and keep an eye on fees.
reg transfer was another good suggestion, it all depends on what plate you want. I got mine about 10years ago and was 5 figures but as long as you’re not picky there’s usually a lot to choose from

GordonI bought mine from DVLA because it included the £80 fee. However, I took delivery of my new motability car on the 14th of this month and to my surprise, my personal plate wasn’t on the car. It would appear that DVLA won’t let motability put the personal plate on at the moment due to a covid related backlog. I did check with motability and they said it’s being reviewed at the end of this month so fingers crossed. The dealership made up my plates for me which are sitting there waiting.

File28@Gordon strange one, I have recently received the authorisation letter from mob ops for the transfer of plates from current car to my next one due 7th September
Here’s hoping ?

GordonYou should be ok with that as it seems to be the 28th that the decision will be made with a view to plates going on from the 1st of September. I do find it strange that DVLA can’t just press a button to change the age related number plate to your personal plate!

File28We should be OK as our Seat is unregistered atm so it’ll be our 666 on it and our Mazda will require age related plate 67 plate on handover day

File28Just spoke to the dealership about the plates
As we have the document reference number from mob ops it can be done on the day of handover over via the interweb

Anita TrewickHi I was hoping someone could help with this slightly different question.
I am looking a order a new car next week. My initials AT are assigned to Norfolk and I was born in 71 so its an easy ( ish) way to get a personalised plate without the cost.
My question, which areas of Norfolk does AT apply to as no one can tell me. Everyone is saying they don’t have that assigned to them.
Also- can I request a plate with AT from any dealership, via motability, so I don’t have to travel so far.
I would just like AT71 but to buy it separately with my full initials at the end is over £500
July 26, 2021 at 1:14 pm #159857Doesn’t quite work like that Anita. AT is one of a number of prefixes assigned to Norwich. See this:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vehicle_registration_plates_of_the_United_Kingdom
The prefixes tend to be used in order until the random letters are used up, so you might see AT on cars from three years ago but not coming round again for a while. You could check with a Norwich dealer what prefix is being used just now, you might get lucky.
July 30, 2021 at 7:52 am #160163I got mine from the DVLA site, found them to be the cheapest as well. Had been looking for a plate on other sites for years and found nothing that was within a reasonable price range then i came across one on the DVLA site that was almost my surname for £399 so i snapped it up.
