Hello, so I’m going to be taking the theory test in two weeks, the thing is I’m not sure whether to put in for a car and get the handover date and apply for the driving lessons grant of 40 hours or will it work out better to pay the £70 a week for 2 hours driving. Also the my other thought is if I have the car I can do private practice too.  I’m just so confused and people are coming from all different directions and putting in their 2 pennies worth who also have no clue about motability. If i do go for the car can you please also advise me on the time span of putting in the order and being given a handover date, specifically for hybrid and electric if possible (but petrol is OK too),will be going for only automatic.

Sorry if it’s information over load, but I think I’m glad I found this forum.

        Exciting times!

Honestly with delivery times as they are (loooooong) then you’ll possibly have learned to drive before it is delivered!

The 40 lessons seems like the obvious choice, I can’t see why you’d want to pay for that yourself ?

It is NOT a race.  Go at your own pace. Passing the driving theory and test are your first aims.

Once that is achieved, then you can decide what car you want.

You really need to get a car that suits you, and that entails going for lots of test drives.

          Baby steps…or maybe kitten steps…lol. I have 3 Savannahs….lol.

If you were to order a car now, you would have to have someone as a named driver at the time of ordering as the dealer would need evidence of somebody with a license, Once you past your test it’s easy for you to become the named driver.

I would take the free 40 lessons and top up an extra hour if really needed out of your own money. It would work out cheaper for you doing it this way.

Depending on the vehicle you want and the choice available if your lucky enough to be under 25, deliver can be 12 months or more as Adrian suggests. Something to think about is, do you order the car now and hope you have passed your test by the time the car is delivered, or do you pass your test first and then order and wait however long for the car to arrive 🙂

I have a progressive condition so can’t deal with that kind of timescale! ?

My only regret is not being able to order lots and end up with the one that’s actually delivered ?

But yes, get on those free lessons.

Didn’t even consider that, but of course kezo raises a good point. But this can be someone who has legitimate interest in being named on the car .. parent, partner, friend.
