Yeah, I was waiting for that. I wonder if and when it will make it to the scheme?

Nice but, not a fan of the centre console and it obstructs middle seat passengers in the rear! I suspect if it did join it would be the standard range rather than the long range version. which would be a shame.

I think the most important aspect of this news is that for the first time a volume carmaker (Stellantis) is offering a battery range previously only available from more “premium “ manufacturers at stellar prices.

It is a given that technological advances tend to trickle down from the top and we have seen offerings from Mercedes etc with 500 + mile ranges previously. As Kezo states it will depend on what the likely asking price is, but even so it appears that “range anxiety” with regards BEVs, could become a thing of the past.

Prices in the EU likely announced in November and availability in the UK from Feb 24. Things are moving apace, for sure.

Sadly though, the range of this car has nothing to do with technology trickling down, all they have done is put an even bigger battery in the car.

Currently the lower range achievable of less than 200miles is on 50kWh batteries, 60-80Kwh batteries are giving 280-350 mile ranges, The Long range e-3008 has a 100kWh battery.

Hopefully though in the future, technology will reduce weight and improve the efficiency, BYD seal has made the battery pack part of the structure of the car, which has a marked reduction in weight and should be more efficient.

Take your point Intranicity, so let me put it another way.The innovations that occur in luxury cars today end up in the cars for the masses tomorrow. That’s why I think this announcement is so important. It seems that Stellantis have developed an affordable large battery option suitable for mass car production.

It will be  very interesting to see what the cost of this long range vehicle will be.

Initially, the e3008’s battery will be supplied by FinDreams, a unit of China’s BYD (002594.SZ)
