      Hi

We ordered our first motability car and straight away sink into problems, so need an advice, since we got no experience with motability yet.

Thing is that in our circumstances we handling our recent car back at end of february and need a car, life is hard for us without. So in January we were driving from dealership to dealership (Hyundai, Nissan, Toyota) and asking about delivery times. And since Vantage Toyota in Wakefield told us that waiting time only 2 weeks, we were happy and ordered Bz4x straight away.

Since then our new car story start to become dark. Motability decision took a week, maybe because Im driver for my disabled son, I dont know. But anyway, we been promised car by dealer on 6 Feb. Date passed, we went into dealership for update, they moved date to Feb 19. Then we received Motability email, we check website and theres saying that we can collect car from Feb 26. Soon after we received kinda contract letter with reg plate and other vehicle data in it. We keep calling everyday to Wakefield Toyota, but got only promises call back. Finally yesterday we got call from dealership, so we asked what time on Monday we should come to collect a car, but guy said theres been delay and they expect car first week of March.
Then we login into Motability and we see that car collection date changed to March 28. Btw 28 is our date of mobility payment to bank, maybe its related?

So long story short, after delivery date been moved almost 4 times from promised 2 weeks initially to 2 months, we got suspicion that dealership is liars and if it goes like this, we looking at summer delivery…

We are desperate, soon we will be without car, feeling like been tricked into something.

Its is possible to move to another dealership who can keep them word and somehow “reorder” car?
We fall in love with Toyota Bz4x, its truly family car, but now we so desperate, that thinking again about Ioniq 5 or MG4… I dont know…

      What are our options?

The thing is many including me have been through this no dealer really unless a car is physically built and at uk port can guarantee any delivery date it is like this everywhere. If a dealer has a stock or showroom car you could be lucky but many go to a list as first come first served basis, a VW dealer told me and on VW website some available  stock but again it is likely that people that have cars on order maybe offered these first and of course some go to retail customers and not motability customers we come last as one dealer told me they do not make any money out of Motability which over many years I am fed up with.

if you head over to here lots of dealers advertise stock and sometimes give discounts

          https://www.facebook.com/groups/Motability.advice.special.offers.group

You can then cancel your order and just go and pick your new car up in four days

I know there’s an MG dealer in Coventry that do lots of stuff on there most of their vehicles are in stock

How long after ordering did you receive what looked like a contract letter? You normally get some paperwork at the time of ordering the vehicle with the dealer but it doen’t contain registration details. On the day of collection you receive more paperwork.

You are in your rights to cancell and move to another dealer.

Do not fall into the trap that cars on Auto trader and or dealership websites are available you can phone them but many times I have been told these cars are either gone or maybe coming in at a later date One dealer told me that these ads were just ads and not available which is a bummer but you can be lucky phoning around.

might depend on when your 3 years for current car ends. btw you can keep current car until new one is ready to pick up. the new dealer can take it back for you to save going to 2 dealers

yes we received letter called “Hire agreement regulated by consumer act 1974”. It contains Vehicle ID, reg plate number and reg data at 26/02/2024.

So I have no idea what stage we are here.

Unusuall you have received that throuh the post – even the date is in advance!

I would ring Motability this morning and tell them you have received this through the post dated the 26th. I would also say the dealer keeps moving the goal posts and you are considering cancelling with them and ordering from a dealer with stock, as ou are now being told end of March, whic isn’t possible with you sending your own hire car back.

thx man you gave my confidence back 🙂

We  reached Motability and they told us that we can cancel order and make new one, but advised to check dealers before doing that. we thought before that all our business now with dealer and motability is done their job.

So we discussing with family maybe give last chance to Vantage Wakefield give car straight away or we moving elsewhere. But I doubt do they care.

Otherwise we explore Toyota dealers around (we still stubborn want Bz4x, we in love with this car 🙂 ) and if we face same “promises promises” we will try move to another brand. We kinda ok-ish with Ioniq 5 and in Wakefield they said that possible they have in stock, but pay ~£1300 for lowest trim over top of £750 we cant afford that, so we moved to toyota. At that time we dont know that some dealers offer discounts. Also Nissan Arya kinda of nice family car, but max we can pay maybe £500 on top of that £750.

The hard bit is your first time on Motability and you have personal hire car that needs to back. Unfortunately some dealers mess Motabilty customers about.

From my perspective you have 2 possibly 3 options

1- Check with Burrows Sheffield & Doncaster they still have the Motion BZX4 in stock and would theyd they let it go to Motability

2- Speak with Vantage and say if you can’t get the car by the x date you want to cancel, unless they are prepared to put you in a loan car.

3- Ask the lease company your current car is with, if you can extend the lease for another month.

Ideally you need to speak with Burrows first to check they are willing to let you have one from stock and give your ultimatum to Vantage soon after speaking with Burrows. If Vantage can’t guarantee your deadline ring Burrows back and ask if you can leave a small deposit tro secure the vehicle and you will come round to sign the next day or when your Vehicle with Vantage is cancelled. I would then ring Vantage again and cancell the contract, I would also ring Motability and ask them to cancell it for you now as you have found a stock vehicle. You would then need to visit or ask Motability idf you can do the order online with Burrows.

What you don’t want is Vantage to mess you around further only to find any stock vehicles with Burrows have been sold.

One thing to note you may not be aware of. Once Vantage have your vehicle delivered it will take upto a week for them to PDI and 4 days hopefully for Motability to sort their paperwork before you can collect the vehicle. If Burrows are prepared to let you have a stock vehicle, which is highly likely, it will only need 4 days for Motability to sort their paperwork before you can collect the vehicle.
