I had a Motability car but since I do not have a license I had my partner as a Named driver.

Because my Motability car was stolen, will he have to declare it on future car insurance applications if it was not his car but mine? He is now looking for a car for his own use and is worried his insurance will be through the roof OR that he will fill out the application incorrectly and have issues down the line.

He was also rear ended before the theft (very minor damage) and we notified the Insurance company but the claim was never completed because the car was stolen. Is that something he needs to mention on future car insurance applications? He was the driver at the time. (he is the only driver)

As your partner was the sole named driver of the Motability vehicle, he would be named as the person covered by insurance. Your partner therefore will have to declare on future insurance policy’s for 5 years.

When your partner was rear ended, it depends whether you past on the details of the third party who rear ended the car, to the insurance. It also depends whether your partner or third party was deemed at fault, to whether it was recorded as you partner was at fault or non fault (third party blamed) and if fully recovery of repair costs were claimed of the third party insurer. Regardless who was at fault, you need to declare it on future policy’s for 5yrs.

You can request a copy of the claims history for the Motability car from DLM and use the details if your partner applies for his own insurance. However, if one or both the accidents aren’t finalised, the claims history letter may show as pending or words to that effect. This may increase the price he pays for insurance, untilll the claim/s are finalised.

Whatever your partner decides, do not lie when applying for insurance, as insurance companies share details on a database 🙂

Oh Jesus thats awful, his insurance is going to be so high.

The rear end incident was a hit and run, we were never able to exchange details with the driver at fault.

Before we paid for the insurance claim and finalised the bodywork repair (small 1cm dent) the car was stolen, so it never went any further and we never heard from the insurance company again.

All the insurance information for the stolen car claim was with myself, the Motability customer and Policy holder (or so we assume) so we thought it would not affect him as a named driver

I had this happen to me, I am a PA to a disabled person and parked the car while he went to an appointment. I then left the car and on returning it had been hit and whoever it was had left the scene without reporting it or leaving details.

Result is that I have a non fault claim against my driving history (not the motability customer). However I reported this claim straightaway to my own insurance company and wait for it! £1.23 reduction in price! BUT note – This was a non fault claim and who knows what will happen on renewal date.
